Sony VTC5 18650 + Nitecore i4

I have a Nitecore i4 I bought for the specific purpose of charging my VTC5's.

It has 3 lights. The first will blink and if the battery is charged to at least that level it will stop and then the 2nd light will blink and so on.

When I put my High Drain VTC5 on it, if there is any charge of significance the meter will shoot straight to the 3rd bar and stop blinking even though the battery is not fully charged.

I have confirmed the battery is not charged with both a 2nd charger and a multi-meter. The MM reads 3.97 volts.

Anyone else have a similar problem? Maybe I got a defective i4?

Pretty sure my Nitecore i2 will top off any battery reading below full charge.

To check I just inserted a Panasonic NCR18650PF reading 3.93v. The charger went to second stage and is currently blinking away.

Interested in what others report.

does the charger "top off" other batteries to 4.2? or do all of them stop @ 3.97? If others top off at 4.2, I would be wondering more about the battery

I love the Efest Luc charger. Has led read out. very nice charger. I have the I4 too but just prefer a readout of exact battery voltage.

I have the Nitecore i4 as well as two VTC4, VTC5 and Efest purple batteries in various sizes. Most of mine top off about 4.15 to 4.2 volts depending on their age mostly. So in answer to the OP original question I've not had the problem he describes.

Yeah, definitely the charger is bad. They are going to replace it. Thanks and thanks for the Efest LUC recommendation. Any other good chargers out there?

I'm happy with my i4, it's had 4 vtc ' s on it forever and it's never had a problem
