So I'm only two weeks into vaping and I'm in the process of searching for liquids that I love. I've ordered samples from five different vendors so far. There are two flavors that I ordered from one vendor that I love but that my throat really starts to hurt after vaping them for any period of time. At first I just thought that it was my throat adjusting to vaping and that I needed to drink more water. After several days of this though I'm starting to think it is the juice from this one vendor. Both flavors are 50pg/50vg. I think my other liquids have higher levels of pg. My go to vape when my throat really starts hurting is my Belgian Cocoa from Halo. It really seems to soothe my throat. I don't think Halo releases their pg/Vg ratio though.

I really do like the flavors from this vendor and they do offer customizable pg/vg ratios. Being a newbie I just ordered their standard ratio. Any ideas as to whether an adjustment in the ratio might help? The feeling is my throat when vaping the juice is kinda like small needles ...... in the back of my throat.

I'm pretty sure Halo juices are high in PG unless your vaping their red oak line which is pure VG. You have to figure out which is irritating your throat. Usually most people believe PG to be the culprit in throat ache, and VG can make your lungs feel heavy-ish. It all goes away with time as your body heals and detoxes. Try a VG dominant juice in the meantime.

I've been primarily vaping midnight apple, TriBeCa, and Belgian cocoa from halo with no problems. I also have vaped Bonnie and Clyde from Villain Vapors with no problems. I can't find a ratio listed for it though. I have some liquid in 70/30 from another vendor but I haven't been vaping these as much as the halo and these two flavors that seem to be causing the problem. I also just got some in from ECBlend that is 50/50 but I'm letting them steep. I guess I need to do a more formal experiment to see if I can tell a difference. It's just that I love the Georgia Peach flavor that seems to be causing the problem and I keep going back to it!

Thanks so much! I was thinking that I've read that the pg is what can cause the throat irritation, so my experience wasn't making much sense to me. I will experiment with my other juices and see what happens. I was wondering if it was possible that it could be a flavoring issue. I don't taste any cinnamon in the two flavors. They are Georgia peach and creme brûlée. I had been using the peach a lot and the creme brûlée just a little bit at a time. Yesterday I filled a ce5 with the creme brûlée and took it out this morning to vape. Noticed the throat irritation right away. Tried my hale and then another flavor and no problems.

The State of Confusion
When I started vaping I had a sensitivity to pg based juices.

I found that vg based juices for me was the way to go, plus they produce thicker vapor.:toast:

Naturally the flavoring can also cause issues depending on the vendor....

I have been mixing my own for quite a while and I use only approved food grade flavors, as most vendors do also....

I would try the vg based liquids (I use pg as a diluent) my end ration is usually about 75/25..vg to pg and flavors...

Not to add another layer of complexity but I've found that different juice delivery systems affect my throat sensitive is well. What is smooth in a carto may not be in a clearo, usually I can resolve this with some fine tuning of the voltage.

I originally thought this might be the issue. I was using the peach in my eroll cartridges but then tried it in a ce5 with the same issue. I haven't tried it in my evod yet though. Honestly I probably only have maybe 1 ml of it left. I really loved it but I need to figure this out before I place another order for it.

Welcome to ECF!
After being stuck on Peanut Butter cup and Butterscotch for MONTHS, I bought samples from 9 vendors, LOL!
What I noticed is some samples are only "as is" in the VG/PG level they send you, no choice, or it's not revealed. Halo doesn't give their percentages for their juice, "This is proprietary information which we are unable to share at this time. There are many companies looking to duplicate Halo e-liquid, and we prefer not to offer any specific information regarding ratios or specific ingredients." E-liquid FAQ
So that is a bummer.
Also take into consideration that your taste buds, throat and mouth are going through some changes and this could go on for several weeks. If you can, stick to what doesn't cause discomfort and the delivery device for the time being. You'll more than likely get "Vape Tongue" down the road and have to change your flavors to actually taste the vape.
But it does chill out! I can give you some suggestions, but I've been analog free for 9 months so my taste and physical reactions to ejuice are going to be different regardless! But, if you are doing good with Halo, you might try the samples from Moon Mountain (60/40 PG/VG) and Seduce Juice (50/50 PG/VG). They're very similar to Halo in smoothness, hit, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to look into those vendors. I do love the halo I've tried but I don't love the price. I can see myself continuing to order from them regularly but definitely need some less expensive capes to add to my reorder list.

I had the same issue with a 50/50 mix. Sore throat, felt like I was getting a cold. Changed venders who have a 70/30 vg/pg and have been symptom free.

Glad to know I'm not alone in this. However I'm now trying a 50/50 mix from EcBlends and no problems yet. Too early to tell though. Only problem is so far the flavor doesn't wow me.

Another note.....Alice does her samples to a specific PG/VG also..........I got the mega sample. Some of the stuff I REALLY like, others are kinda "meh" but that's just me. They use a combo of PG/VG that they feel is best for that particular juice (unknown on their site). You can put in a note with your order to ask for a specific %. I bought a bunch of blank cartos, put 10-20 drops of each e-juice into each one and put them on my eTwist. The thing is, they vape'd entirely different for me on a eVic/SID with a Kanger PT & PT2, heads, heating coil, placement of the wick, and all that so the flavor and hit was different. Hope that helps :)
