Sore throat with cartomizer?

I've been using clearomizers all the time, but last week I got ahold of Boge 510 cartomizer and decided to use it for a change. I noticed that filling and re-filling it is a bit of a pain, but I guess it's only because I'm used to clearos.
I was using exactly the same e-liquid (PG as usual, 9mg - way lower than my usual 18/24) in both clearo and carto, but only with the latter one I've experienced what could be described as bazillions of rusty nails stabbing the back of my throat.
It wasn't that bad in the beginning but after one day I almost couldn't speak due to the pain. I mean, I've heard that cartomizers give better throat hit, but this was closer to slicing it off with corroded razor.
Cartomizer wasn't leaking, I was blowing beautiful clouds, taste was normal, not burnt. So I assumed everything was working ok.
Is it possible that I can't use cartomizers because of the filling in the tube? Or have I done something wrong while refilling it?
i tried using it again, when I was typing. I regret that now.

What ohm or resistance coil is in the cartomizer? Low resistance (LR) might be too warm for your liking and can cause harshness to the throat. I personally like a standard resistance (SR) cartomizer, which for a Boge would be around 3.0 ohm if I recall correctly. Boge's LR cartos are 2.0 ohm (?). I'm not sure because I'm not a fan of Boges and rarely use them.

You may want to try a different brand of cartomizer. Other popular brands are SMOK or Smoktech, and Ikenvape. Everyone has their brand preference. For Smoktech and Ikenvape, their LR cartos will be 1.5 ohm to 1.8 ohm; their SR cartos will be 2.0 ohm - 2.4 ohm; and high resistance cartos 3.0 or higher. I use Ikenvape and Smoktech cartos as my preferred brand of cartos.

Smoktech offers both single and dual coil cartos. If you want to avoid harshness, do not get the dual coils.

Another point would be did you fill the carto adequately. A 35 mm (standard length) carto will hold 1 ml of e-liquid; a 45 mm (XL) will hold 1.5 ml. I don't count drops because different droppers make different size drops. I use the drip & flick fill method similar to flicking a thermometer before you check your temperature. I describe this filling technique for cartomizers in my blog here: Baditude's Cartotank Setup Guide

I prefer the better flavor and consistancy of a properly filled carto over any clearomizer. The only downside of using cartos solo is it can be difficult to know when to refill them as you can't see how much liquid is left. Once you allow a dry carto to burn, it is ruined. I use pre-punched cartos in cartotanks so that I don't have to worry about that. Plus using them in a cartotank prolongs their life.
