Hi all,

I have been vaping for a month now and off regular cigarettes, but I seem to be having issues with a sore throat related to vaping. No matter what flavor I vape, it just always stings my throat and I end up with a sore throat. I've tried mixing my liquids strictly with VG only and while I get more vapor production, I still wind up with a sore throat. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, is this something that will go away? I'm hoping so, but after a month now it just seems to be getting worse and not better. I'm hoping someone here will have some helpful suggestions.

As others suggested, try drinking more water. Vaping dehydrates your tissue.

Failing that, try vaping no-nic, unflavored VG. It's cheap. You can probably get it at Walmart. Make sure it is USP-grade.

If that doesn't bother your throat, then it's either the nic or the flavoring. Try adding nic first, then flavoring. Try One Stop DIY Shop for unflavored nic juice (make sure you dilute it down to the right strength), and flavoring.

If the flavoring is bothering you, try out CloudsofVapor's CloudNatural's line. It's all-natural flavoring. That may make a difference.

Water might solve your sore throat problem, but I thought I'd copy and paste a message I recently posted and blogged, so you can try to figure out what's causing your sore throat.

My 64-day experience with vaping has taught me that there can be many factors that cause problems.

Here are a few that I've experienced and my thoughts on the causes, to give you an idea of why it took me almost two months to figure out what was causing what. None of the following symptoms were psychological in my case.

1. Coughing up more phlegm than usual a few times during the first 10 days. Lungs and cilia were healing after quitting smoking.

2. Sore left cheek and sore right cheek, back by where my wisdom teeth used to be, at different times for about a week each, similar to canker sore-type of pain. Healing of the inside of my mouth after quitting smoking (I think...I couldn't come up with any other reason for these pains).

3. Sore throat, sore roof in mouth, and sore chest. Using a 5 volt passthrough produces more power, which caused the vapor to be warmer and gradually burned into my sensitive mouth, throat, and lungs (the sensitivity could be due to smoking for 42 years, I don't know the reason for the sensitivity, could be my age of 58). Drinking more water got rid of the pain, and quit using the 5V passthroughs resulted in not getting that "burning" type of pain anymore.

4. Sore throat and sore chest. Nicotine levels of 24mg and 30mg were too high for me. Reducing the nicotine level to 18mg solved this problem.

5. Sore gums at various times in the last two months. There are two reasons for this:

a) The first time was from healing after quitting smoking.

b) The last few times were from a sensitivity to the Glycerin (VG) that I add to my liquid mixture. Glycerin is sweet, and my gums are sensitive to too much sugar. An example is when I ate way too many Sweet Tarts every day for way too long. My gums got really sore, and I had to quit eating them. I solved this recent problem with vaping by reducing the amount of Glycerin I add, and my gums are no longer sore.

I don't think I've had any problems with using PG, even at the 80% ratio.

I wanted to thank you all for your helpful advice. I did drink more water and that seemed to solve the problem and I did lower my nic level from 24mg to 18mg and that helped even more. Also I had noticed that the heartburn I was experiencing with it seemed to clear up also from the reduction in nic levels. YAY! So all is right with my vaping world once more. You all are just fabulous, I really appreciate you taking the time and sharing your experiences with me :)

That's great to hear! Sounds similar to my beginning experiences with trying a higher nicotine level and not drinking enough water (and the other things I discovered I needed to change...mentioned above).

Happy vaping!

Regarding my sore gum problem:

In the last few weeks, I've suspected the cause of my sore gums is due to both the Glycerin and the Apple liquid I mix with the other pre-mixed liquids.

So, first, I reduced the amount of Glycerin I add to my mixture. That didn't solve the problem; I was still getting sore gums (above the two eye-teeth where my gums are recessed due to overbrushing most of my life).

Last night, I mixed up a few mL in four different bottles:

1) 1 part RY4, 1 part caramel, 1/2 part apple
2) 1 part RY4, 1 part caramel
3) 1 part RY4, 2 parts caramel
4) 1 part RY4, 3 parts caramel

I just did test vapes of all four mixtures in four different cartomizers in this order: 4, 3, 2, and 1.

When I was vaping the first bottle with the apple, my gums started getting sore after just a few drags. Now I know the apple is the main reason for pain in those two sensitive gum areas.

I've already mixed equal parts of RY4, caramel, nut mix, and apple into a 32oz bottle that has about 700mL left. I have about 225ml of caramel and about 70ml of RY4, so I think I'll add those bottles to the 32oz bottle to dilute the apple. Will have to use another 32oz bottle, though.

Then I'll have 229mL of Apple from FSUSA that I won't be using. Mixed on 11/9/10, 18mg, 90pg/10vg. Guess I'll have to try to sell both bottles for $60 including priority mail shipping to anyone who PMs me.
