I get a severe sore throat usually after a week into vaping, and need to switch to analogues until my throat gets better, which is usually another week. Is this a phase I need to get over?I heard it may have something to do with PG in e-juice. I want to try VG, but I can't find them anywhere. :(

cocopie - it could be a PG sensitivity. I'm experiencing that, sore throat, headache and sometimes nausea. I'm back on the analogs and waiting for the VG to come in.

You might want to try to add some VG to your cartos. Sometimes if you cut the PG down a bit, it will make a help ease the sore throat. You can get VG in a health food store - I use "Heritage" VG - the label says "emollient & skin soother, natural sweetner, base for herbal extracts.

I had a small sore throat, but it was because I was coughing my head off getting rid of all the junk I had in my lungs.

My doc said If I quit cold turkey I would still have a sore throat for around 2 weeks, (I smoked a ton) She also told me to drink plenty of water.

If your throat is sore you should check with your doc, could be something else.

While you are not in the majority, this is a very common problem. Many venders sell VG based liquid, although you may do well on a blend of PG & VG. Johnson Creek sell 'reduced' PG, but it's still about 66-80% PG. Many venders will blend 50:50, and a growing number offer all VG based. There's been a trend toward VG because it's less irritating, less drying, yields better vapor, is cheaper & more readily available, is a more natural product, and for political purposes (opponents can't say we're smoking anti-freeze). Personally I use VG, but either is infinitly healthier than tobacco. In the final analysis we'll probably find that the plastics ingested from soda & milk containers were far more harmful than vaping glycerin w/ nicotine. If we all vaped glycerin with distilled water, a little nicotine, with an adult flavor (like coffee, mocha, menthol, mint) it would remove 90% of the argument against e-cigs. Society probably wouldn't be as concerned or paying much attention to us if we stayed somewhat stealthy and didn't flaunt it. When you put kiosks in malls selling 'cotton candy' flavored 'cigarettes', you push it in their face and they WILL react. If you vape VG, you can rightfully claim you are exhaling virtually water vapor with only trace (insignificant) amounts of nicotine. Dr. E.G.

One thing to note, depending upon how bad the sore throat is, it may simply be dehydration too. You *MUST* hydrate very well with PG.

I had a sore throat the first couple days, I just super hydrated and stuck it out and it was gone by the end of the third day.

>> is a more natural product

So is cyanide and Chlorine gas. I wouldn't recommend them though. Natural != Healthy as a universal case by any stretch of the imagination

As far as suggesting we're "smoking anti-freeze" - I guess we're also smoking tooth paste, mouth wash, nearly all cosmetics, many preserved foods, etc etc etc.

There is a TREMENDOUS body of work and decades of experience with inhaled PG, but I've yet to find any significant work on atomized inhaled VG - have you?

As has been said, you need to drink plenty of water when you vape. You could also be sensitive to the PG and in that case VG would help. I couldn't take PG, my throat remained too sore and my mouth got really sore, especially the roof of my mouth which is healing quite nicely after switching to VG.

There are quite a few places that sell VG. I personally would recommend wordupecig.com. Lots of flavor selection, 100%vg, great service and fast shipping.

*Edit* I just noticed this was in the V4L sub forum. Guess thats what I get for not paying attention. If you refill your own carto's, my post is relevant. If you are looking for VG cartos, I can't help you there :(

Most of the studies I've seen in relation to glycerin inhalation is in regards to tobacco smoke studies. For example:

http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=14021772
Chemical Sampling Information: Glycerin Mist (Total Dust)

These state that the addition of glycerin and propylene glycol do not significantly affect the biological activity of the cigarette smoke. However, these are short term studies. The MSDS states a low risk for inhalation for usual industrial handling, but that doesn't tell us anything either long term or in direct inhalation.

I've also read concern about acrolein production from using VG juice, but a member on this forum did some temperature studies of an atomizer at 6V, and found that while dry the atomizer had the proper temperature to break down VG, while it was wet with liquid it did not.

I am not a chemist, biologist, or health care professional, but in the short term I don't believe there would be major problems with inhalation of VG. From a risk reduction standpoint, I believe it would be healthier than inhaling tobacco smoke. I urge everyone with concerns to talk to their doctors about it, and keep a close eye on your health.

For those awaiting VG cartos, there was a thread about it a few weeks back. They are in the works, and I believe there were going to be 5-10 flavors to start, including a few flavors unique to VG.

I started out only vaping V4L's tasty juices and cartos(PG). I had the typical sore/dry throat. Gradually I developed a pretty sore tongue too, and the more I vaped and the longer I vaped the worse it got till I started to add some VG to my juice. Eventually I could easily see that the more PG in the blend the worse my tongue was getting. Now I'm only refilling my cartomizers with straight VG juice bought elsewhere and my mouth problems have disappeared completely. Not sure how common it is to become more PG sensitive over time but I have.

I'm eagerly awaiting the V4L VG juice and hopefully cartomizers to arrive, I know they're getting them in as soon as possible and I am stalking the site to get mine the instant they arrive.

Try refilling with some juice with VG added and see if you're like me and see a little improvement in your throat. If so stalk the site for the VG goodies, they're coming!

Thats what happened to me. I got a sore throat in the first week which went away, and a few weeks later everything started rapidly getting sore. My throat, mouth, and tongue were all really sore. Started cutting my juice with VG and noticed an improvement. The more PG I vaped the worse I was. I now vape VG juice and everything is great once again, so I'm assuming that it might be more common to become PG sensitive over time than we think.

I'm brand new. Luckily I found this forum, it gave me a good running start. I order a starting kit from Vapor4life based on all the recommendations. I have to say I was very happy on how fast my order was filled, the extras they gave me. Even after watching videos I was a bit surprised on how much vapor it produces

I've smoke about 2 packs a day for over 20 years Marlboro reds and more recently 305's, a generic

My throat and mouth seem ok but even a small amount in my lungs produces a burning sensation with coughing. I ordered some VG juice else where cause it Vapor4life don't appear to carry it yet. I hope I get better results with that

I got a sore throat, sore bumps on my tongue and chapped lips from he** when I first started. This went on for about a week and it all just went away, thank goodness. I also started drinking more liquids, I guess that is what made it go away.

I also got dizzy for several days, lightheaded, I think from getting oxygen instead of cig. smoke, but that went away pretty quickly too.

I've been cutting my juice with VG lately to produce more vapor and to cut the nic level. I started off at 36, went to 24 and am now down to 18 on a regular basis and flirting with 11mg. Don't really know how much I am getting a day, I always seem to have a battery or mod glued to my hands. LOL But whatever it is, I feel way better than when I smoked now.

A lot of the symptoms are symptoms people have just when stopping cigarettes without the use of the vaping supplies, too. I know some of mine were.

Oh, yeah, I had the gum thing going on, too, I forgot about that. LOL It's a wonder I didn't quit, I was a mess for a week, plus I didn't like vaping the first 2 days AT ALL. I thought, I'm not gonna do this, but after that, I started liking it.
