I am of that generation, but I don't fit the stereotype. I grew up getting told I was dirt among other things, so I grew up knowing I had to prove myself. Have long since learned I have nothing to prove, but I also am not entitled to anything I don't deserve/earn. And quite a few of us in the y-gen have the yo-yo with home, because the economy just flat out sucks. I don't live with mommy fyi, it is too bloody cold there and expensive. :D

Were all in the same boat for jobs right now .Friends told me at the beginning of 2008 when things started to go south here and warned me it would get much worse ....i didnt believe them so i didnt hussle for work when laid off .:( I had money saved and was set to take my time .Boy do i regret that decision :(
It's still going to get worse here .My gf moved from here ,cali ,to mass and found work almost immediately .I keep hearing how it has rebounded better on the news .I can't move to Mass but if i were young i would consider it .

Parents need to realize they have to teach their children to make choices and function in the world.Telling them what to do does not teach them to decide what is right.Giving them everything doesn't teach them to make choices on whats a want and whats a need. How can they think for themselves and make good choices in life when you hold their hand and tell them whats best and give them a free ride? Its our job to grow functioning, caring people who can make good choices and be an asset to the world.

Ms. Keyzy my wife calls it the Elmo generation.... They're giant babies who think everything is supposed to go their way with no adversity to hold them up. It's why we have all these anti-bullying people, pc people, etc.... It's gotten to where you can't even do a comedy show without getting sued.... It's pointless, constant success and the easy road in life teaches you nothing, mistakes and hardships bring knowledge....

My kids friends have everything handed to them and they think they deserve more. Its so sad. They have thousands of dollars worth of electronics and phones and whatever. They make weekly trips to buy more $50 games to play. One mother stood in front of me and bragged that she spent her husbands big bonus on a coach bag,her nails and games for the kids.Meanwhile they have thousands of dollars in CC debt.I felt like slapping her.My son looked at my shocked face and burst out laughing and walked away.I refuse to raise my children to live like that.Earn your way,Pay your way.My kids pet sit, help the neighbors or whatever to earn extra spending money.None of their friends have ever had to earn a cent. They are grown kids that have never even babysat or anything. It freakin amazes me.

Nice Darri...!!!! And now it's grown legs....... As for Lujin...Lujin is old......but young of heart:p How's that Lujin...did I make that palatable?

I never blame the younger generation of 20 somethings for the wretched state of the world. It wasn't their greed, market manipulation, scandals, fraud, collusion, political policies or alleged feelings of entitlement that has the world so messed up. If one wants to play the blame game look no further than the closest mirror or pictures of your 60-something parents. It's our generation that was reckless and our generation that was irresponsible.

Our generation sat at the table gorging ourselves on credit cards, home equity loans, cars we couldn't afford, outrageous pensions, and homes we were never really qualified to buy. In the meantime we gave corporations more rights, political access and protections than individuals which they abused under the guise of maximizing profits. At the end of all of this we have conveniently handed the bill to those lazy entitlement loving 20 somethings.

In order to pay for our gluttony we simply cut education funding, college grants, along with vocational and after school programs. Then we have the gall to blame them for their lack of motivation and work ethic. If we could only give them the world we grew up in with all the opportunities we enjoyed it would be completely different story. Ironic that we sit here discussing this on computers and software that a bunch 20 somethings were responsible for 30 years ago. The only thing our children were ever guilty of was being born and the last time I checked they didn't really have much say in that manner.

Then again, what do I know?

Man did the wheels on this topic train ever fall off..............:p

Yup, the younger people are having to pay for it. So are those multitudes of us who have seen retirement savings dwindle or disappear and who will have to work way beyond retirement age in order to survive.....as Nancy said, we are all in the same boat right now; unsure about our financial futures. I think it's bad all around. Fortunately, we still have it better than most of the rest of the world. :)

I don't think we were blaming the 20 somethings for the current state .I think we were just commenting on the article .
@ Keyzy ..you are so right .I always worked if i wanted money and I raised my son the same way .
When he was 20 ,he said " i'm so glad i was not one of those kids in high school who were given a luxury car i didn't earn only to wrap it around a tree ". He is happy he had to earn what he has .He has always worked .He is not in debt ,save for a car payment . I am so proud. Did we help in the early years ? sure . Did we spoil ,no .

p.s. My dad was born in 1922 and mom in 1924 so i did not come from money or a spoiled gen .I came from hardworking people who busted .... to buy a first home and the move up was a standard middle class home in Riverside ca in the late 50's early 60's. My brothers are in their 60's now. Neither had anything handed to them .But they did have the ability to move on up in the 70's with two incomes and purchase or build brand new homes back then .Then you could "step up " .Kids today cannot ,in most parts of the country "move on up " .A fixer upper in a regular neighborhood in san jose is still 700K or more .You have to be an engineer to make it here .We will be retiring elsewhere ...i mean hubby ,maybe .I will work way beyond previous retirement age .If i have work .And at this rate ,we may all be in the "geezers " program at micky d's lol.
