I know y'all must get sick of answering the same questions, but since there's so much info, it's hard to sort out. After reading a good majority of the posts on this site, I'm pretty sure I'm going with the Vapor4Life Vapor King Ultimate Ultimatum Kit here . I was planning on buying some extra cartomizers to start with until I get the hang of it. So my questions are:

I smoke just under a pack of cigs a day now, what level of nicotine should I start with? I don't want to go too low, or else I know the shock will turn me off to the ecig.

2nd, with this brand/model, can I eventually buy blank cartos, and use the liquid, so I'm not remortgaging my house buying the preloaded ones??

And just out of curiosity, do you have any flavor suggestions to start off with? I plan on buying everything from this site for now.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The vapor King is a popular KR8 kit and that price is not bad considering you get a PCC an carrying case and a pass through.

You can buy blank cartos from V4L but you can also refill the preloaded carts that you will get with the kit.

I do recommend that you get the manual battery version though. Leaking from overfilling cartos can ruin auto batteries.

The Vapor King is a KR808D-1 battery. These can be bought at many of the supplier sites. It is what I used to start vaping. I then bought more batteries from other sites. Also the cartomizers are easily found. You can shop around for prices by buying items individually. Yes, you can buy and fill blank cartomizers. Just look for everything KR808D-1.
I would not be surprised if you needed 24mg nic to start out with. It seems like that is high, but I would have some when you start. You can always change the cartomizers and customize your nic needs at the time of vaping. Better to have stronger than get the "gotta just have a cig" panic.
I smoked menthol and got some cartomizers of that at first. I found I like them in the morning. During the day I love the sweet juice. Tobacco is not a favorite of mine. Flavors really are hit and miss at first.
Good luck in your vaping transition!

I started with the Vapor King from Vapor4Life. It is not the PV I use now but it was great for me to start with. I would suggest getting several different strengths of cartos. I started out with 18 mg. and I was a 2 PAD smoker. However, I found I had a hard time sleeping at night and so in the evening I drop my nicotine level down. You can buy blank cartos and fill your own but if you are getting automatic batteries you must be careful filling cartos not to get any leaks that would get in your battery. The auto batteries have a hole in the carto end. If you get juice in there it will short out your battery. I, personally, like the manual battery. You have to push a button to vape but it does not take long to adjust to that. The manual battery is closed and there is no chance of ruining your battery when you fill blank cartos if you have a leak. Everyone likes different flavors so for me to tell you what flavors you will like is risky. What I like you may hate. I bought a tobacco sampler and fruit sampler to start. I liked both of them with the exception of the menthol. I could not vape the menthol cartos. I hear the vanilla is good as are the coffee flavors if you like coffee. Good luck to you. I hope some of the advice I've given you is helpful. There is a big learning curve when you start vaping but you will love it and hopefully you can quit smoking. That is always our goal. I have not smoked since the first day I vaped. I have no desire for a cigarette but I don't think I'll ever quit vaping. I enjoy it too much. Your tastes will change over time. I loved the fruit flavors when I started and now I do not like them at all. Be patient with yourself and realize you'll probably spend more than you think at first but the cost will level out after a while.

My husband bought me the exact same kit. I chose that one because V4L lets you choose the free cartos that come with it, Liberty Flights did not. All those extra chargers do come in handy.
I'd pick up some blank cartos and juice right now too, that's what I did. The Cool carts are harder to draw on than the WOWS and produce less vapor. Pick up at least 1 10ml bottle of juice. I don't like the prefilled cartos or the juice from V4L very much. I got the Nobacco Smilin Menthol and the Nobacco Cowboy VG. It's tolerable but the juice I got at Velvet Vapors, Juicy Vapor and Vaperite is much better.
I started at 8mg nic and quickly figured out that this was a mistake. Get some 24 to 18, you can always cut it with some 0 nic juice if it's too strong.

Since then I have also purchased extra batterys and cartomizers from Litecigusa and Avid Vapor.
The VaporKing is simply a kr808d-1 and lots of vendors carry batts, cartos and other accessories for them.
I think mine is fantastic and am having no trouble staying of the cigs.

I agree with getting some cartos with different levels of nic in them. If you only get 18mg and it is too much, how would you dilute it? it's not like you probably have some PG or VG laying around the house, or even how would accomplish this since it appears that cartos have the stuffing inside them?

I myself, was a pack a day smoker. When I started vaping, I started with 6mg nic and then moved up to 12mg where I am completely satisfied. Too much nic causes headaches and nausea for me, too little nic just makes me want to vape more (but since I am a chain vaper, I dont know how that would be possible LOL :) )

Anyway, I suggest some cartos in 18mg, 12mg and maybe even some 6 mg because everyone is different and until you try it you wont know what level is right for you, but you dont want to only have stuff on hand that wont work for you. Best of luck!

V4L is a great company, and they often have excellent discounts (join their family program e-mail list). A discount code of SMILIN will always get you 10% off. I would recommend the Wow cartos - they are a little lower resistance and have more "sizzle". As mentioned, you can buy blank cartos and fill them with your choice of juice. Here is a great thread with lots of info about their offerings:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/vapor4life/58027-vaporking-user-guide.html

I would guess you'll use about 2 cartos per day to start with. Each carto contains around 1ml of liquid. See if you can find the nicotine content per cigarette of your current brand and multiply that by the number of cigarettes you smoke in a day. For example, if your brand has 0.8 per cigarette, you are taking in 16mg of nicotine in a pack. Multiply that by 2.5 to get a ballpark for the amount of nicotine you'll need per day from an e-cig - that would be 40mg in this example. In this case, you'd need somewhere in the neighborhood of 20mg per carto, which would put you in the range of 18-24mg cartos (2 per day). Most people seem to have success starting in that range. I'd also recommend getting some lower-mg cartos to use in the evening - a lot of folks have trouble getting to sleep when starting vaping, and nicotine is a stimulant, much like caffeine.

When I started, I found I didn't care much for the tobacco flavors - they all tasted like an unlit cigarette to me. My wife, on the other hand, has liked the V4L Cowboy flavor since Day 1, and it is still her favorite after all this time. I found that coffee flavors satisfied me - they have a little of the "bite" that a cigarette does. I later discovered that I enjoyed menthol flavor, which surprised me, as I hated menthol cigarettes. There are many choices, and you will find your "go-to" flavor in time. Your taste buds will change, too, and your favorites will as well, so keep enough supplies but don't overstock.

Make sure to drink plenty of water, very important! Best of luck, and there are lots of folks here who can help you on your journey.

Welcome to ECF ! Its not what I started with but I've read lots of good stuff about the KR808 you're thinking of buying. I would suggest the manual battery over the auto version. 24 mg for the cartos that come with your kit. I'd also order some in 18 mg as you will likely need to start at one of those two levels and until you start you'll not know which is better for you. I understand your desire to start as simply as possible with prefilled cartos and that's not a bad idea but get youself at least one bottle of juice so if you find yourself running low before your next order arrives you will have the ability to fill cartos you have.

As far as flavors go that's really hard to give advise on. And especially when I've never bought any flavors from the company you are looking at. We all have such different taste in our e-juice flavors. AND most often the taste of someone just starting out is different than what your taste will be a few months from now. Don't over buy any one flavor in the beginning and give yourself the chance to try as many as possible.

Good luck !

Hi JM,
Don't apologize for being confused. I was in your exact shoes last week....simply wanted a good alternative to cigs, but what were all of these acronyms and gadgets? Dripping? Atomizers? Mods? Buttons to push? Wild stuff that looked like drug paraphernalia? LOL I was astonished that there was a whole "subculture" around electronic smoking alternatives.

With perserverance, I settled on the Bloog Maxx Fusion, and ordered the basic starter kit, 2 additional small (65mm batteries), one trifecta battery, and all sorts of different cartomizer packs. Sadly, I only ordered one in the 24 mg nic strength, and I do seem to need that strength to avoid a cigarette craving. Right now, I will start my day with 24mg, switch to 16mg after my coffee, and switch back to 24mg once I start feeling cravings.

Honestly, I can't tell you how delighted I am with my choice. The flavors of the pre-filled cartridges aren't really my thing, but I have orders coming from Vaperite, Gourmet Vapors, and Freedom Smoke USA so I can find some that I like. BUT....the taste is simply *different*, not *horrible*, and after all....how good does burnt tobacco really taste anyway? LOL

The Bloog Maxx Fusion (same battery style as the one you have chosen, but there are differences in the battery technology and the cartridges, from what I understand) has exceeded my expectations!

All the best to you,
Tracy
