When my Husband had surgery he was still a heavy smoker. They had to collapse his lung to make room for the work they were doing. They put a stint in to drain the fluid off of his lung. Within 24 hours he had filled a 100ml beaker with thick, black tar, and this was just one lung.

Now, we all can't have our lungs drained when we quit so our bodies have to slowly clean the lungs and dump the poison. It will come out in your urine, bowels and skin for months, perhaps even a year.

As long as we are all being candid adults, both my urine and bowel smelled like an ashtray, (tar), for months and it is now beginning to fade.

I'm glad this topic came up, it's something that happens to a lot of people and it could scare them if they didn't have some sort of advice to explain what is happening.

vape On and live Longer.

Personally I am very reluctant to quit smoking cold turkey. Just because vaping has completely freed the sentient me, just because "I" don't want to smoke, certainly doesn't mean that all parts of my body also do.

I am committed to forcing myself to smoke a small amount for the foreseeable future. I have no doubt whatsoever that I can tolerate levels of stuff like hydrocyanide/benzene/formaldehyde that could literally kill a non-smoker. I imagine instant cessation akin to a 100 car freight train suddenly running out of track.

Let me state in no uncertain terms that those couple of smokes are becoming very difficult to endure, as I actually feel my entire body from head to toe churning in waves of nausea.

This is the price I have to pay for putting my body into such extreme and perpetual defensiveness, for 20+ years.

Actually, I noticed that about my urine and I'm into this nearly 7 months. Yes, it smells strong certain times of day. The weird dreams are a side effect too with me. I didn't know why I was having them but it's now been confirmed here. I also sleep like a log and have a hard time waking in the morning. I smoked 43 years so I'm sure there's lots of gunk to get out of my system!

Okay, the urine itself should not smell--well it should, it should smell like urine and not like really really rancid disgusting urine. I would suggest drinking at minimum 3 liters of water per day. (If we're talking about the small 500ml water bottles that are common--thats six of them--and thats for someone who isn't active at all.) If I don't drink at least 3L of water of day, I get terrible headaches.

That being said, it could also be a number of factors.

1. Changes in diet
2. Changes in vitamin taking (if you take a multivitiamin or whatever), Mrs Katz noticed her urine "smelling funny" after she started taking a multivitamin in the evening rather than the morning.
3. Any changes in other medication
4. Your sense of smell is returning and your urine always smelled that foul (happened with me with the other waste product)
5. You're still detoxing all the other crap from smoking and rather than coughing it up like most people its being flushed through the kidneys.
6. A more serious condition completely unrelated to vaping such as diabetes.

I recommend drinking 3 or more LITERS of water a day, and if that does not solve the problem within a week to consult with a doctor.

Wow, that is weird. At first my pee smelled like a rancid sulfur egg fart combined with Malibu rum. I'd be ...... in public restroom and inevitably some one would say "is tha sun tan lo...WTH is that hideous smell?" That only last a few weeks. Now my pee smells like potpourri. People have invited me over before parties just to pee in their houseplants just to freshen up the place. I'm thinking of making a business out of it.

You could get into the candle/ wax tart making business!

Oh yeah. That slow to wake thing? I'm still doing that. I've always been slow to wake up. All my life. But it got really pronounced some time into vaping. For a couple of weeks, it was like being a zombie all day long. I mean I felt fine. Too good in fact. So relaxed, I wanted to just nap all day. That passed but I still wake up soooo sloooow. But considering the quality of sleep I'm getting, I wouldn't want to go back. Used to wake up in the middle of the night all the time. Now days, pretty much never do. Did last night briefly but we had a small thunderstorm wander through and raise a ruckus. :)

Would not surprise me. I hadn't really thought about it but when you quit smoking, your body does start trying to clear out the gunk that's been accumulating. Had noticed things were, ahem, more fragrant but thought that was probably my sense of smell returning.

Heh, friend of mine who quit smoking before I did (not vaping, other means) did comment that getting your sense of smell back can have its downside sometimes. :D

(I discovered one of the downsides recently when passing some plant or other that's up the highway a bit, on the way to my mom's house. Thought, "Has it always stuck this bad here???" According to my non-smoking brother, the answer is: yes, yes it has.)

As a fan of toilet humor, I'm not put off by this topic at all. Yes, I've noticed this. Especially on heavy vape days when I'm drinking coffee all day and nothing else. It passes with drinking more actual water. The PG that remains in your body is passed through urine so I think that's what I'm smelling.

I'm not on the fence about this as I experienced it with the exact scent of what I vaped all day the previous day. I won't mention the top notch vendor or their juice as this is not a negative comment or review. I was initially stunned to suddenly smell it as if I had just vaped the juice! I smelled the exact same scent of the heavy maple/tobacco I had vaped. This was at five days analog free. Couldn't help but chuckle at the unexpected moment but stands to reason as the flavor had been ingested ya know.

On the subject of increased urination, yes, I do find myself going a lot more since I began vaping but am responsibly drinking a lot more water too!

It does make sense that urine could take the odor of the liquids vaped. I have always noticed a difference when I have eaten asparagus and homemade pork pasta sauce. Yep, the sauce does it and my urine actually smells like the sauce. Not a bad smell, but it makes me want a plate of pasta and sauce at weird times of the day or night!

Not to worry anyone, but I happened upon a bit of research that indicated some kidney problems in vapers. I am sooo sorry that I can't find it again right now. My sister experienced an enlarged liver after vaping for about two weeks. She has a bit of a chronic liver issue. It is very sensitive and will become enlarged when she takes too much Tylenol etc. She quit vaping just in case it was the cause, upped her daily dose of Milk Thistle and was good as rain in about a week. She has not returned to vaping out of fear. Too bad. We all know the crap in cigs is definitely very bad for the liver, our main detox organ.

Anyway, I could find no causal relationship between liver issues and vaping, but did find one lonely article about kidney issues and vaping. For this reason, I would scoot over to the base/post dispensary and have a UA done. Wouldn't hurt to have some bloodwork as well. Kidneys are really important and once damaged, they require some TLC for a long time! Being military I would think it is just a bit of an inconvenience to get checked out. Nice to have a baseline at the very least.

Best of luck to you and I hope your pee smells like potpourri in the days to come. Can't have just one person having all the fun!

The first few days I vaped, especially with a strong clove-flavored juice, I noticed a change in the smell of my urine for sure, actually somewhat in-line with what I'd smell after smoking, but since I switched flavors these past couple weeks the smell has gone away. I'm guessing it's something in the clove oils in my case, as I used to smoke mostly kreteks as opposed to more traditional analogs like a lot of folks on here..but I wouldn't say an unusual smell is anything to worry too much about, especially if you're hydrated properly. If you start getting any sort of painful urination, etc, that's a good time to see a doctor about a possible UTI, but just an odd smell is probably not a big deal.

Come to think of it, when I was experimenting with higher nicotine levels, 36-48mg menthols mostly, I noticed another very distinct change in odor, and the only thing I can link it to is the amount of nicotine I was taking in. I do the direct lung inhale with vaping most of the time, I know most advise against it, it works for me, so it's what I do..not sure if that's a contributor or not. If I remember in the morning I'll try and DIY some kind of 48mg juice and vape that for a day or two, see if I can reproduce the effect with a different flavoring set, and I'll report back if I get the same odor issues from the increased nic level. It wasn't a nasty smell, per-say, just different, and the first thing to mind was 'bet it's the nicotine'. Just never did a repeat test since I stopped the high-nic regimen almost as soon as I started due to a decrease in stress level.
