Make sure you are putting enough wick inside your coils... Spitting typically happens when there is not quite enough wicking material in the coils.

also going overboard with it too can cause spit. I use really short driptips. The way I wick mine is slide the cotton thru the coil and very short tails tucked underneath the atomizer. Dont need to cover the entire well with cotton, then when i drip i just soak the cotton and dont fill the well. Have to drip more often but basically negates all spitback. Flooding it or having excess juice in the well just causes major spitback.

Can anyone reccomend any splash proof drip tips. I love my hobo but to use it on the DNA-40 I pretty much need a coil a few mm from the drip tip. Meaning I am prone to getting juice mouth. Any advice or reccomendations would be appreciated!

Unlike what a few have recommended, as I see no sign of you getting "spitback" of any kind. What I am thinking you are saying is you are getting a mouthful of the condensation of liquid that pools both inside the top cap and also your drip tip. I used to use standard drip tips but they always pooled liquid in them and on occasion I would get a very wet draw while vaping. I since have corrected this by going to wide bore drip tips that don't have any kind of ledge in them for condensation to pool in them. Most of my tips have at least a 6mm throat in them and some have 9mm...

This is one of my favorite drip tips and has an 8.4mm throat bore in it. It is offered in shorty or long barrel...
