SS wick troubles

When I wrap a new coil around my wick I have a very hard time working out the hotspots. The coil will glow to a certain point and stop. The area where it stops on the wick actually glows vertically from the point where the coil stops glowing. If I keep working at it I can eventually get the coil to glow evenly. Could someone please tell me what's going on?

Did you fold the edge of the ss mesh? This helps hotspots from frays when cut. Another reason would be coil to tight. Or not oxidise well. What would help is a pic or what coil? Middle, first coil on top or bottom? Where is your end of ss located?

It's always the top wick. I torched the wick completely and folded the edge. The coils move easily when I push them around. It also shorts in more than one spot. I assume it's a short anyway. The wick itself glows.

The same thing happens on a lot of my builds, I just pulse and adjust until the hot spots get worked out and it usually ends up working just fine.
