Can't you melt it? If you get it to hot
You can melt anything if you get it hot enough. I’ve melted SS coils in a mod. With mesh it’s easy. Melting isn’t why some wires are TC only. It’s that they can produce dangerous oxides if gotten too hot.

Doesn't it sort of poor man's TC on a mech? My 0.17ohm coil will hit 0.21+ when firing.
The output on a mech is dependant on the supplied voltage of the battery. You are correct, thougth, SS coils change resistance when heated. Yes, I'm poor in dollars, but rich in peace of mind. I also use VW with SS, but that's not the point I was trying to make. ;)

Would be very difficult to reach that even dry fired

Kanthal Melting Point
1,500 °C (2,730 °F)
I accidently melted the leg off a kanthal coil once when recoiling an rta. My mistake though, didnt check my wattage before dry firing and tweaking a new coil set up with a thinner wire than what i normally use.

And i would think the melting temp of any wire would be a lot lower that an actual hunk of the metal its made from....

The Melting Point of a material Doesn't change when you have a Thin Wire or Big Hunk (like an Atomizer Deck).

Only the Amount of Heat per unit Area and Time.

With a Big Hunk, the Heat has somewhere to go. And you might need to Heat the Entire Hunk, or at least a Significant Portion of it, before you can get part of it to Melt.

With a Thin Wire, the Heat Doesn't dissipate as well. So the Area where the Heat is being applied can rise in Temperature Very Quickly.

Kinda like how a Thin Wire has a Fast Ramp-Up. But a Thick Wire has a Slow Ramp-Up.
