Do you need to space TC?

Quick question: do you have to use spaced coils for TC to work with SS316L?

No, but it works better. If you don't space, you have to make sure it is glowing perfectly inside out; and I have messed up a contact coil for tc when re-wicking. So now I just always space (because I'm lazy). It can be really really close; just not touching.

When I forget to gently dry burn a new stainless coil build it usually gives me trouble. I forgot with my last build a few days ago. I was getting atomizer shorts until I addressed that. Now the coil is working fine.

Even if you build a spaced coil, you should still torch the coil/wire to remove the machining residue. Nasty stuff that does not belong in your lungs.

I do use contact coils and always make sure they're lighting up properly form the inside out. Not hard to get it done. Works fine in TC for me. Most of my coils are Claptons or fused Claptons, so take that into the mix as well.

I hated contact/micro coils. I always managed to burn the center out and I never really grasped the concept of how juice can vaporize using tight coils. Spaced coils doesn't mean having a wide space but some space. The spaces in some of my spaced coils(claptons) are just wide enough to slip a business card into, maybe a tad wider. Wide enough for juice to get through. I don't make many single wire builds anymore once I discovered clapton and other multiwire builds. I am newish to SS wire and TC mode but so far its performed in both TC and wattage mode with great success. I use the 316L SS wire 24, 26, 28 and 34 gauges. I also have a hitter thats ArcticFox compatible so tinkering with TC settings, power curves and other options helps to make a better vape.
