Here's an update on cleaning the Stardust, since we've discovered that you can actually take it apart!
Very well done RockinRobbieSF.
In your video, the wick looked to be in good shape, and ashed over. One of the posters that autopsied a dead soldier in a different thread said the wick had become degraded and crumbled. So does the wick look as good in person as in the vid?
I've been having good success rinsing out with water then Vodka followed by a dry burn, then a final vodka rinse without disassembling. Think I'll disassemble the next time to get a good look at the wick.
Great video, thank you! I had no idea you can actually disassemble this one. Quick question though: does it really make a big difference, performance-wise? It looks like taking the tube off is a pita... I've been cleaning mine with the tube on, and it's ok so far, but, granted, I only cleaned twice at this point. I do the standard vodka/dry burn/pipe cleaner/warm water procedure. The wicks never really seem to get white again after the first fill, especially the ends...
Looking forward to the re-wicking vid.![]()
i am actually working on something for them to make, something similar to a future product where we can snap in new coils easily. ill let you all know if they can do it in the future.
its easy to do, if your capable of coarse and it does take a little muscle, but once you do it like 2 times its a no brainer and redoing the coil while tricky can be done if you have the patience to do it, i am actually working on something for them to make, something similar to a future product where we can snap in new coils easily. ill let you all know if they can do it in the future.
I've taken one apart and believe me, it's not worth the effort. Cleaning them with warm water and dry burning works just as well.Yeah, the muscle part is what concerns me... I have pretty bad arthritis in my hands, so I'm just wondering if the result is worth the pain, so to speak.
Snap-in coils would be VERY cool.
