Howdy. First off, I wish I had found you guys sooner, but at the same time it probably would have delayed my purchasing a PV by like a month trying to sift through all this info, which is a month longer I'd be inhaling sweet smokey death.

Second, I know there's a lot of V2 hate, but I've purchased a kit and am very happy with it for the following reasons -

1) for me what's important is not so much the nicotine as it is the sensation of inhaling and exhaling, the feeling of having it between my fingers, the flavor etc. I've essentially conditioned myself for 15 years to enjoy smoking a cigarette not inhaling nicotine, and V2 lets me simulate that very well.

2) I like the style and feel of the batteries. It's psychological nonsense really, but just like with food, presentation, atmosphere, and a host of other variables can affect the experience.

3) looking similar to an analogue brings about less questions in public, and I generally dislike the public so this works out quite well.

4) for those I don't mind talking to, it helps bridge the mental gap between smoking and vaping.

5) I don't like whistle tips, they've always felt awkward.

6) I like the 2 piece design, it makes it easy to switch on the go without too much hassle.

I know smokeless image and a few others provide the same battery model as V2, which covers 3-5, but then I refer to 2. They're the best rated of the over-marketed versions and they feel like they are solidly built.

With that in mind I come to my questions. I'm sure most of this stuff is already answered somewhere, but there's like 5 years of posts and archives here, and it's a needle in a haystack situation, and I can't piggyback on someone else's post for specific info yet (first post). Anyway...

1) I'm given to understand that the V2s are KR808D-1s, but this is based on what seems like 2-4 year old information, and they've allegedly "updated their design" (come to find out they didn't design jack, they just slapped a sticker on it), so I just wanted to know if that's the case. So are they still KR808D-1s?

2) What do the D-2s look like? Or is there some sort of wiki detailing the multiple types of PVs out there? Every time I see this question people just link to their preferred supplier's version of a specific model rather than the actual models. The FAQ did a good job, but it only listed like 3 and was still somewhat vague.

3) Since (if) I have a KR808D-1 from V2, can I buy any cartomizers that fit an 808 like from smokeless image and vapor4life?

4) Can I use the larger Volt PCC (2 batteries etc) with a V2 battery? I think my question is more of an overall "how interchangeable are the KR808D-1 parts and accessories?" but also specifically the cartos and charger.

5) I saw a mention of first time vapers coughing up a lung from not really knowing how to inhale properly... what is the proper way to inhale?

6) I've seen people mention coil types, is this an atomizer thing or cartomizers as well and where can I find more info on this?

7) Where can I find info on sales? (I know the forums, but is there like an announcement section about it or a newsletter or something?)

8) Where can I get a little more info on PG vs VG? Specifically, I'm experiencing some nasal and throat dryness and irritation and I've seen mention of allergies to PG, but I also saw the threads about quitting smoking withdrawl symptoms. I'd like to know more to see if this is one or the other, and whether VG would be a better solution and if so, it's availability and variety of flavors, and from which vendors.

9) My throat hurts a little when I inhale sometimes. I usually puff and hold in my mouth before inhaling. I thought maybe I was breathing it too hot, but it hurts the same even after holding it. Is this what is referred to as "throat hit" and is it a nicotine amount, inhaling technique, PG reaction or something else and how would I make it stop?

Sorry for the essay, but I'm really excited about lowering my risk of a slow and painful death and want to get on the right track as early as possible.

Thanks a ton in advance.

6. Coil types is about how many active sections the filament has. It's about being able to vaporize the liquid either more quickly, or evenly. It's a cartomizer-only thing as far as I know. You get that if you're going to fill up with your own liquid and want to generate more vapor or avoid variances in the cart (i.e. wet spots mixed in with dry spots).

8/9. Make sure that you humidify your throat/nasal area if you vape a lot (get a humidifier, nasal spray, drink lots of water, etc). PG and VG can be very drying to some people. There's also some irritation associated with quitting analogs (as your body cleans itself) or if you're vaping something that has a ton of throat hit or harsh flavorings. It's unlikely to be allergies, but it could be.

5. As far as I know, you suck it in and then breathe? Lol I've never heard of a "proper way" to inhale, don't you just breathe it in? :)

3. All 808 cartos should fit.
4. Charging is trickier as chargers are for the older models and others for newer.
5. You do inhale differently. Pull some vapor into your mouth first, then breathe in through your nose to lessen the irritation to your throat. I don't inhale very deeply at all. You will develop your own style over time. Just don't "smoke" this like a cig as it isn't a cig. :)

LOTS of water. Good luck and congrats on switching!

First off like you I smoked for about 16 yrs and it wasn't so much the nicotine that I was addicted to, but the action of smoking itself was/ is the hardest part for me when I tried to quit. I had quit cold turkey in the past once for over a year, but always started back up again especially if I had a few beers or drinks. I tried my first e-cig about a month ago (ego 650mah batt w/ dct setup) started with 26mg nic juice, smoked about 4 cigs in 4 days that first week and done, then 18mg then a very low nic just to make the transition smooth and I have no desire to even smoke a cig "analog" (still gotta get used to that term).

Disclaimer: I'm relatively new to "vaping" (1 month)

3) looking similar to an analogue brings about less questions in public, and I generally dislike the public so this works out quite well.

Just from my experience for what it's worth, I "vape" in public with my setup, which looks nothing like a cigerette but it is definitely not a elaborate setup that some veterans use, and have noticed that people do not tend to inquire about it the only people that do are the people that know me. Regardless if it works for you then don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I assume the point is to quit the "analogs", so if that's the set up for you then use it, but you will hear that there are other set-ups that are in opinion better. I myself am looking forward to venturing into the VV (variable volt) Mods.

I had similar reactions, very harsh on the throat at first and even till this day, 4 wks later, my first few drags are rougher then it smooths over, but the harshness has gone away. PG (propylene gycol) does seem to give you a dry throat and mouth and from what I gather produces better flavor, and more throat hit i'm not so sure on the vg benefits as of yet, but I think you get more vapor. Throat hit to try and explain is the sensation, like if you were a marlboro red smoker and in a pinch smoke a light or ultra light you will notice that you don't feel the inhale, it's like gun smoke that sensation or lack of is the throat hit.

5) I saw a mention of first time vapers coughing up a lung from not really knowing how to inhale properly... what is the proper way to inhale?

I inhale the same as if I was smoking, but over time it has changed to a longer smoother drag vs a harder shorter drag.

6) I've seen people mention coil types, is this an atomizer thing or cartomizers as well and where can I find more info on this?

This is cartomizer thing, it's what vaporizes the juice and there are many variation of them single coil, dual coil, triple coil, etc. LR=low resistance is any carto that is 2ohm resistance and uner I believe and anything above is regular or high resistance. Also from what I understand low resistance will give a better throat hit and produce more vapor in constant voltage devices (like you and I have) but drain the battery quicker.

3) Since (if) I have a KR808D-1 from V2, can I buy any cartomizers that fit an 808 like from smokeless image and vapor4life?

I use a different system than you BTW, an ego 650mah batt and a DCT and cartomizer, and 80pg/20g blend and currently very little nic and soon no nic. From what I understand as far as compatibility is that it has to do with the connection 808 or 510 (like my ego). So if you find parts that have 808 connection then they will fit. but it doesn't necessarily mean it's right for your PV.

I would try to find a forum specific to your pv for advice and suggestions specific to it. I hope this helps, I'm sure others out there will chime in, although it may take some time.

Thanks for all the info, I spent the rest of the day looking stuff up and decided to get some of the v4l flavored cartos in a lower nic option (4 and 8 down from the 12 I have now) to see if the hit is a little softer. I started smoking marlboro and camel reds but the throat hit on these PVs is something fierce lol. I'm trying the water thing and it does sooth the throat a little. Hopefully a lower mg will soften it. Maybe a lower volt battery too, because I'm trying the usb passthrough thing and that feels a little harsher.

My big issue now, though, is the irritated nose. I'm hoping it's a quitting smoking thing and not a vape thing because I'm really enjoying this, despite the little bit of pain. The flavors are great, using the V2 Sahara right now, it's quite good from my limited flavor experience. The taste is smooth, and I don't feel like my chest is going to explode when I go up a flight of stairs, so that's nice, especially since I take martial arts and being able to breath is a nice (and drastic) change of pace. It's weird getting used to actually feeling my lungs, and not have them hurt when I've grown to expect them to.

It would be nice to find a vendor that has a variable mg 5 pack rather than having to buy 5 at a time to get an idea of where I stand. This startup is getting expensive, but I figure it'll be worth it in the long run, once I find what I like. As of now I have like 25 cartos that I may end up not using at all just trying to find my preference. I don't know how some of you folks are using the 20+. Like I said, I started on marlboro and camel reds, gone through newports, belmonts, kools, turkish golds, and god knows how many others, but none of them where as rough as this.

On a side note, I'm surprised how much prejudice there is against vaping. People just assume it'll kill you. Honestly, I used to think the idea sounded dumb when I first heard about it a few years ago, but I wasn't vehemently opposed to it despite all logic. I actually had a conversation with someone today who was convinced these things were godawful based on the "fact" that no smokers he knows would ever touch them, that "almost no smokers" have switched, and that the FDA hasn't approved them. The same FDA that approved Zicam and Vioxx but is totally ok with filterless cigarettes. He would seriously even refuse to let me complete a sentence to even ask which part he thought wasn't safe. A friend of mine brought up the exploding battery thing, which all of 5 minutes took me to the fire dept report where the chief said "I've never seen something like this before" regarding the incident, which appeared to be some dude making a homemade PV, but even assuming it was a legit PV, I'd be willing to lose a couple of teeth if it meant lowering the risk of emphysema. It's amazing how thoroughly people have made up their minds already!

Anyway, I'm getting way off topic. There's just so much to all this, it's crazy. I'm just really excited. My gf just told me she thinks I'm obsessed lol.

Thanks again folks!

I'm not going to echo your list of questions, but I will say that when i first started I had a problem with soar throat, my dad had a TH problem in the worst way. The soar throat should get better with time and water, I swear I just woke up one day and everything was much better, but I went from about no water to crazy amounts daily. My dad still has a problem with TH, and vapes higher nic levels than I do. What fixed his problem was lower voltage than the analogue look a likes, so he uses an eGo now (3.4 volts instead of 3.7), and his cartomizers are higher resistance than anything I use. The first huge breakthrough for me was V2 being out of their red flavor in anything but zero mg nic, and I wanted to try the flavor, for whatever reason their zero reds put off huge amounts of vapor compared to the cartos with nicotine, and they had a nice cooling sensation on my throat and nasal passage.

Just my 2 cents, hope everything works out for you, and keep us posted.

My wife and myself started with V2 after 35yrs of smoking, thinking we needed something to resemble a real cig in style, feel, even taste. And we have both been cig (analog) free for 4wks.They worked good and served the purpose I purchased them for(quitting smoking),but the battery life wore me out with always charging. I vape more than I smoked,so we got a Kgo (which is just a bigger battery). I found I didn't want a cig taste, but liked menthol which I never smoked menthol. We started with 100PG,it didn't bother my wife by gave me a dry throat and sinuses. So now we vape 70PG/30VG and don't have a problem as long as I drink plenty of water.

So it's been a few more days and I've gotten used to the throat hit a little. First few puffs of the day are a bit tough, but the rest are pretty smooth sailing.

I'm finding myself going through cartos a little quickly, and am trying to better manage my time, because at this rate it'll end up being more expensive than cigs. That whole "equal to a pack" thing really is nonsense, but to be fair, even at this rate it's cut my cost in half/third aside from the starter kit. The money I would have spent on cigs this week went to buying 3 sampler packs, but I still have about 20 cartos anyway so after this I probably won't spend any money for about a month.

I think I'll be trying to refill some of these cartos with juice eventually though, as that might be even cheaper and it doesn't look to be too difficult. There also appears to be a wider variety for flavors and strength. All in all I'm pretty darn happy with the whole experience and I can't believe more people aren't willing to at least try PVs.

Lots of water though lol

So it's been about 3 weeks and I'm loving vaping.

I started with the V2 battery, and I'm now trying the v4l Titan and I love the look of it, but it seems to let much more air through than the V2 making much less vapor. I'm wondering if there's any safe way to adjust it? It seems the v4l battery has 3 little holes by the threading whereas the V2 only has 2. The v4l pulls a little better (thicker) when I keep my finger over the... rim I guess, where the battery and carto connect. I really like the look and feel of these batteries, but if the V2 pulls better then it's really about the experience.
