I recently bought some Volt juice from Smokeless Image and received a free 5-pack of pre-filled cartomizers. These cartomizers happened to fit my SmartSmoke Sigma model. I support(ed) SmartSmoke because they buy advertising time on my favorite podcast, but when I contacted them to confirm the thread type on their models customer support said they make their products in house and can't confirm their thread-type.

This sounds suspect to me. In fact, I may stop supporting them altogether because of this, regardless of who they advertise with.. I don't like being fed bull.....

So I have three questions:

  1. Volt only uses standard 808 (KR808D-1) threads, yes?
  2. KR808D-2 cartomizers are not compatible with KR808D-1?
  3. Where can I find an atomizer and drip tip for my batteries?

I've tried doing a forum and google search, but I couldn't find this answer readily enough.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Johnnie,
Yes, Smokeless Image are KR808D-1, and they are happy to let people know that.
KR808D-2 are not compatible with KR808d-1. Greensmoke are an example of KR808d-2. They are very hard to find accessories for and are often an overpriced pv.
For which batteries do you want an atomizer and drip tip - KR808d-1 or Kr808D-2? Sorry, but confusing.

I'll go with answering on KR808D-1.

You can buy a 901 atomizer, which is compatible with KR808d-1.
Or use a bottom coil KR808D-1 cartomizer as an atomizer buy simply removing the filling. Smokeless Image cartomizers are bottom coil so doing this works a treat. Removing the filling exposes the atomizer inside. I've done it myself. Video below:

Sorry for the confusion. My batteries have to be KR808D-1, since the Volt cartos work fine on them. I just needed to be sure there was no way KR808D-1 and KR808D-2 were compatible so I know what hardware to buy in the future.

It really ticks me off that this company would do this, since I never minded paying the extra price for their hardware. I was even eyeing their eGo clone, which would have been $55 just for a battery and a clearomizer, but now I think I'll probably get myself the Volt X2 just to stay compatible with my existing hardware.

Thanks for the help and quick replies everyone.

Unfortunately there are companies that do this "only compatible with our products" thing. Often they use more obscure threading that's harder to match, or they just want to trap you into buying only their products. In the end I think they lose out because as vaping grows in popularity people are becoming more aware of their options.

BTW, Kanger make good 808D-1 products too, and their products are carried by some vendors.

Get that X2!!!!! It's awesome!! Go for the X2 clearos as well. Sooo much better vapor and flavor than the cartos. No filler to fuss with or clean. The 1300 mah on full charge lasts nearly two days of nearly constant vaping. I only have to refill the clearos twice a day. Way better than dripping or forgetting to check the filler and getting that dry burned taste.

I got a couple and they works great. I noticed that they tend to produce slightly different amount of vape depending on the level of juice remaining into them, but over all, they are great. I still ordered some more X2 as I don't know which one I prefer the most. The nanos also doesn't leak if you fill them well, my X2 always leak a bit when they are turned upside down.
