So I got my Riva 510 from Liberty Flights yesterday. This thing is real nice! I was shocked at how much throat hit there was and how it didn't feel too much different from real smoke!

I got 4 different e juices (5mL PG):
Chocolate Cream 16mg
Menthol 8mg
Black Clove 24mg
RY4 24mg

So far, I've only really enjoyed menthol. I tried chocolate cream a few times, and while it tasted good in my mouth, as soon as it went down the throat it burned quite a bit more than I expected. Same for the black clove. Menthol was the only one that went down smooth.

Is this because of the nicotine content, PG, or just the flavors themselves?

Also, how should I treat the atty when changing flavors? Typically, menthol I don't mind mixing, so I just vape 2 drops of menthol between switching flavors.

It's probably the nicotine mg that's making it go down smoothly because typically menthol is a great way to get a lot of throat hit, so to hear that the menthol is going down smoothly makes me think it's got to be the nicotine mg.

As for switching flavors: the menthol will stay in your atomizer longer than the choc. or the ry4, but will go away eventually. The clove on the other hand... you might want to have a dedicated atomizer for that one. It's always a good idea to have a few extra atomizers anyway because they can die for no apparent reason sometimes.

The difference in throat hit is mostly due to the Nicotine content. Menthol tends to increase the hit, but it's a much smoother sensation. It was a good idea to get smaller bottles, as you'll find yourself buying quite a bit to find your sweet spot with respect to both flavor and throat hit. You also may find that you get used to, even crave, that strong throat hit after vaping for a bit. Don't make quick decisions - give yourself time to adjust to vaping. In the meantime, purchase some more juice with some lower nic around the range that you currently like. Just don't buy too much until you're comfortable with your nic levels and tastes.

I'm not big on doing anything fancy when changing flavors. Sometimes I'll just blow through the mouth end into a napkin until all the excess juice is out. More often than not, though, I'll just switch juices and let the flavors work themselves out on their own. To really get the old flavor out quickly, you could drip 5-6 drops of the new flavor into the atty and immediately blow it out, but that's kind of a waste of some perfectly good juice. Others will have a different take on this.

PG is thin and lets through the most harshness of nicotine, the most TH, the most flavor
VG is thick and dulls all of the above and adds more visible and persistent vapor

Some flavorings themselves have strong throat sensations and those can also be toned down with some VG.

I tend to like juices withing 10% of 70pg/30vg. Some prefer 80pg/20pg for more TH. Some like 50/50, or like it really smooth with high VG. Some are extra sensitive to nicotine's irritation or allergic to PG and like all VG. A few like all PG.

YOu can soak the atomizer in 90% isopropyl alcohol or everclear for about 15 minutes or so, then scoop the alcohol through the atomizer so it runs out the other side. Then then blow it out and let it sit out (upright on a paper towel) for a day or two until all the alcohol evaporates and the atomizer is dry (if you still smell the alcohol it's not dry).

You can also do this with hot water if you are uncomfortable using alcohol, it just takes longer to dry that way.

Good luck :)
