Ive been a smoker for about 8 years, and switched to vaping a little over a week ago.
I purchased a Blu e-cig to start out with, and has kept me analog free since day one.
I do wish that I researched a little more before buying Blu's, but they have worked for me.
The biggest problem with these though, is lack of flavors. I certainly enjoy the ease of prefilled carts but now I want to move to liquids.

Is a 510 a good next step for a beginner? And if so, what else would I want to buy with my starter kit? From what Ive seen, blank cartridges are a good buy, but what else should I look into?

Thanks!

And Thank god for vaping. Best choice I've made in a looonnnggg time.

Blank cartridges are not a good buy. You can reuse and restuff cartridges a long time. Just buy some of the precut blue foam stuffing for 510 at strictlyejuice.com or there are other things you can use for stuffing

Most people get annoyed with cartridge (aka cart) + atty after a bit and end up using cartomizers aka cartos. Most cartos for 510 are blanks - there are very few decent prefilled cartos. I like to use Boge soft-cap cartomizers and you need to use standard resistance (the LR ones are for fat battery models only)

I STRONGLY recommend if you get a 510 get a MANUAL battery model. The 510 manuals are sealed on the threaded end so it is MUCH safer to use cartos and you can also drip using the atty. Auto batteries are prone to getting killed by juice droips that reach the end of the battery. Autos can also turn on by accident from wind or vibration. And manuals give better control of your hit.

To look at 510 manual kits check Liberty-Flights.com (click 20% off on front page upper left first then all prices shown will be shown 20% lower), Cignot.com which has a good price on a no-box Joye 510, and LiteCigUSA.net which also sells Joye 510 and usually has Boge non-LR 510 cartomizers in stock. And you need juice and a drip tip. Then start buying more juice elsewhere.

If you want to look at Ego, Ego-T, or Riva 510 (the fat-battery models) try Liberty-Flights.com with that 20% off clicked.

Re which to get? Depends how strong you like your hits, how long you need a battery to last, how you feel about the look of what you are vaping.

I did the same thing you did and wish I'd skipped the joye 510 and gone straight to the RIVA 510 which has an all day battery vs. charging every 2 hours and a lot more vapor. I did send my Blu back a couple weeks ago and got all my money back. Be sure to follow their instructions. You can't get a refund on the joye so keep it for a spare. The atomizers and carts will fit the RIVA. The RIVA is quite attractive though it does not look like a cig. Got the "Lite Bundle" so when you go to Liberty Flights webpage you have to scroll down to find it, if they have any left.

Agree with all others. I used a 510 for over a year, all the while still smoking cigs because I didn't want to put up with the poor battery, refilling or constant dripping during the work day. I switched to the Ego-T and haven't wanted a regular cig since. I recently switched over to the v5 XL clearos, and love those even more. My advice would be to get some 510 cartos, clearos, and an Ego-T atty with a few Ego batts and see which you like more. I still use mt Ego-T for some flavors, and the clearos for my main one.

I guess I have to be different...I have the Joye 510 manual and I love it!!! I've only had it for a week, but as far as I can tell I am not going to have to upgrade to anything different because it works for me. I smoked for 15 years and I get the TH and taste that I want from my Joye 510. I did have a generic ultra slim automatic before I got the Joye 510 and liked it also, but it was a hassle to refill.

I also agree with everyone's response. I started with an eGo and my girlfriend got the yeti or joye 510. Out thinking was that since I smoked more I needed the eGo, but she should be fine with the batt. life of a joye 510. Boy were we wrong. Not only did we like vaping so much we lowered our nic levels because the math that I did started me at 24mg, but I didn't realize how fast she would run through a standard 510 batt. Needless to say she took one of my eGo batts and I got a few more so we were both running eGo's with a batt to spare each. I also recommend the passthrough while at home, or at work if they will allow it.

I don't drip, use a cartridge which isn't that difficult to refill and I have a usb battery charger so I can charge while I'm sitting at my computer or laptop. But, I work at home on my computer so that's probably why it works so well for me...lol.

son et lumiere-- Thanks for the link, I will def bookmark that one!
5card-- Yeah I know that I dont wanna buy a huge bottle of liquid until I find the flavors I like.
So a passthrough would be a good idea? I figured 2 batteries would suffice if rotating.

Np they are a good company. I just ordered something from them last night and needed it shipped out today and unlike most vendors they had a phone number I could call minutes later I got a tracking number.

I too started with the blu but the battery life was not enough to keep me satisfied. I switched to the Ego and couldn't be happier. excellent battery life. They are bigger and are not like a cigarette like the blu but does not seem to bother me at all. Just remember the blu comes with a 30 day return. I returned mine at exactly 30 days and did receive the full refund.

With the Ego T the "T" stands for "Tank". Not a liquid tank but a battle tank. I just had my Ego T fall from my shirt pocket to the asphalt and ran over by my sisters Suburban as she backed out of my drive, first the back tire and then the front . As I picked up my little jewel, I found it to be bleeding e-liquid. With a heavy heart, I examined the remains only to find that the source of the leak was a cracked tank. In an attempt to revive my little friend, I popped in a freshly filled spare tank and much to my amazement, my pride and joy came back to life with little more than some tire tracks on it. This thing is a "Tank"!! This baby amazing.
