There are probably many who have done this to varying degrees of success. Im giving my brother in law a starter kit for his birthday tomorrow. He has been smoking for over 30 years and wants to quit. He knows I quit and I couldnt have done it without vaping. So I got him a Kanger Emow starter kit. Its a hell of a lot nicer than what I started with. I got him 3 bottles of juice that should suit his flavor profile in 12 mg nic. Im wondering of those who have given starter kits as gifts have they been successful in quitting smoking? Did they jump into vaping like so many of us do?

I suggest not buying it for him.

Get him a gift certificate, or let him pick it out.

I actually disagree with this. I have been vaping for a while and I know what is decent and what is good and what is horrible. He would have no idea what to buy and waste the money like I did when I got my first setup.

Unless he has expressed interest or until he expresses interest do not give it to him. I know if someone had given me a vape kit, before I decided to get one myself. I would just throuw it away. I would have considered the person a pushy holier-than-thou EX smoker.. The worst of the NON smoking public, IMO.

^^^ There is that. People can and do come away from receiving an e-cig kit as a pushy and unwarranted non-gift. If the person has expressed no desire or interest in quitting the kits sit in the back of a drawer, get passed on to someone else, or just get tossed out. Then the follow up "Didja try it? Didja like it?" questions get awkward - or even hostile.

I quit buying stuff for anyone and just tossing it at them. It seldom helps. If they want to try it and show genuine interest in quitting I'll bend over backward to help them pick stuff out, but don't assume if you just blindly give someone a PV that they will even try it. So shoot low. You investing a ton of $$$ in this doesn't up their likelihood of trying it. To the extreme, some of us wont' go further than handing out a decent disposable to the uncommitted.

I still applaud your effort, just don't blow a ton of money if they have never tried a PV or expressed and interest in quitting smoking. Once given, if they don't follow up about it just leave the topic alone.

Thumbs up to you for doing that  You say he wants to quit so he's halfway there :)

I've had both experiences, some quit & some don't ...
no quilt for those who don't continue tho'! It's really a personal choice :)

Since I started vaping I've visited my daughter and her family three times. Her and her husband smoke. They have both tried my setup several times and liked it. While visiting last month my son in law showed interest in my new setup and various juices. Every time I visit them I checkout new local shops and normally pickup some new juice I've not seen before. This trip I picked him up a kit and some juice for his birthday. We spent Saturday evening vaping on his couch watching movies. I went back to visit last week and without bringing up the topic he mentioned he only has about two cigs a day and enjoys vaping in his work van and 'inside' the house. My daughter mentioned that she wants to get a kit of her own, which I just purchased for my next visit :)

Forgot to mention he did indeed ask for it.

Bought my wife an EVOD starter kit of her own (in the color she selected) for Christmas last year after I quit my 30+ year habit in under 2 weeks

Long story short.....I ended up the proud owner of 2 more EVODs
I just celebrated a year of not smoking while she's still on the cigs.

I think it's a great gift anyway and wish him success, just don't be disappointed if it doesn't work.
However, I would question whether 12 mg is starting too low if he is a regular smoker and not just a casual.
Think there's a better chance of success starting higher and letting him work down---to have better chance he's getting the nicotine satisfaction to keep him going.

    Good Luck!

Just curious -- what kind of kit did you get him? I've just committed to going to the local vape store with a family friend to help her select her starter kit. They've got the Ego 350, the Ego 650, the Innokin iTaste EP, and the Innokin Lily as starter kits. I think they also have the EMOW kit, but she isn't going to sink a lot of money into this at first (if ever.) What really attracted her to vaping when I talked about it was when I mentioned how much money I'd saved.

I started with the ego 650, but this gal is never going to read up and stuff and will likely stick with what she gets at first for a good while. What did you find worked with your son-in-law?

My in-laws gave me a starter kit, unasked for and unwanted by me. It was a piece of garbage.

    But it got me interested.

I started doing some searching on E-cigs as I have never dealt with them before. Costs, health, reliability, success rate to quitting, ...

    Led me here

Now I am a born again Vape-a-holic who brings his own soap-box wherever I go to sing praises about Vaping and all that it can do.

(Yes I am that jerk that talks to smokers if they ask, and talk to family members even if they don't).

Maybe I am that 1 in a million guy. But it got me thinking and questioning. And I am sorry to say but at prices now a days IMHO almost every smoker wants to quit for whatever reason. But a few (like me) were afraid of failing again, so we stopped looking at ways to do so.
