I'm looking to buy my first PV. I have been looking at the smokeless image starter kits because I don't want to spend too much at first. I want to be sure I will like and USE the e cig before I buy a nice setup but at the same time I feel like it might be a waste of money if it turns out I do use it and want to upgrade to something better. Did you guys start out with something like this and then move on?

I started almost three months ago with a kit of two Vision Spinner 1300 batteries and V2 clearomizers. I'm still using the batteries. I think they're great; the one I'm using right now actually is on it's second day on one charge.

I've moved on from the V2's to Vision Vivi Novas. I don't see it as an upgrade with a waste of money. The V2's broke, so I had to buy something anyway. And I much prefer the Vivi Novas. The V2's were great to start with, the vape was fine, but I wanted to move on to something I thought would be more durable.

I think the only product I've purchased that has been waste are the ProTanks. I bought two about a month ago; one has since broken. I haven't used the other in over a week. I'll keep that as a back-up, along with the two V2's that remain.

My next upgrade, when the supplier I use gets them in, will be the glass Vivi Nova. I like the vape from the Vivi Nova, and I like the concept of the glass of the ProTank. The advantage I see to this one is that it's encased in metal, which I'm hoping will provide security and durability.

Not to knock smokeless image but I believe you would be saving some cash with something that you will be using much longer than the starter kits from smokeless image and there expensive it looks like from the quick google search i did.

My Initial set up:

2x ego c twist 900 mAh batteries

1 vivi nova with xtra heads
1 kanger evod with xtra coils

some yummy sounding juices ,charger, carry case etc.

This is no longer my day to day vaping set up but yes I believe I can state for the majority of people on this forum that they ALWAYS upgrade and I mean ALWAYS  Dont get me wrong If im headed to work I usually grab one of these ego twist and vape all day at work. It still make a great back up even if you dont use it.

VAPE ON!!:vapor:

Well you can't go wrong with a nice ego type battery and clearomizer set up: easy to charge and refill the clearo. The clearo will last for 3-4 months if you clean it. Lots of good starter kits out there. Some of the ego type kits start at $20 which is less then I paid for my blu starter kit and the taste is better.

I would suggest you get someone in a brick and mortar store (also referred to as a B&M) to show you what they have, let you try it out and some flavors of ejuice. Do a google search, you should be able to find something where you are, don't discount 'smoke' or 'head' shops, sometimes they know a lot about PV's.

Hold off on a MOD (modified personal vaporizer) until you decide what you are looking for: just quit smoking, regular cigarette look-a-like, easy filling, ect.

I wasted money on an ecig kit a few months ago. I hated it and set is aside as an "Oh well" purchase. Then a friend got a vaping set up and let me have a couple of puffs. The difference is huge. I went to a local store the next day and got a (overpriced) starter kit. I didn't know it was overpriced until I found ecf. You're on the right path.

Check out the online stores and use the coupon section here to save some money. If you don't mind waiting a bit to get your gear then check out fasttech.com , the prices are mind blowing compared to the brick and mortar stores.

Something like this from fasttech would be a good start $17.65 EGO-AS 6-in-1 USB Rechargeable 900mAh Electronic Cigarettes Health Keeping Set - silver / US plug adapter at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Just my $.02

I really can't knock SI products. The Volt starter kits are what me and my wife started with nearly a year ago. I think the small form factor cig-a-like, helped me make the transition. We have both moved on to ego type (the larger X2s from SI) but I still use the smaller Volts as an out and about device.

I think it's important to remember that almost any "starter" kit is just that...a start...and they are all somewhat disposable. What ever you start with, you will likely try lots of other stuff over the first few months until you finally settle on what you like.

I don't believe that my initial investment was a waste of money as it did end my cigarette usage. However, if I knew then what I know now, I might have started off with a pure ego setup and spent my time exploring delivery devices (clearos, tanks, etc) and finding the right juices for my needs.

Thanks for all the responses! I originally chose the smokeless image kit because it seems the simplest. There are so many options and I'm not sure what to choose. I'm not opposed to an ego kit but the whole tanks, atomizers, clearomizers and cartomizer thing confuses me. Since I'm new, I'd like to try different juices so can you do that with a tank? Wouldn't the wicks absorb the flavor? I was thinking I could just pick up a lot of cartos to try different flavors as they're fairly cheap. I also heard clearomizers leak so I couldn't just fill one up to carry around or it would leak out? And aside from that, there are so many brands and types of delivery systems it just seems overwhelming. I wish there was a for dummies primer haha!

This is such a helpful forum!

+1 for e-go. I wasted 90$ on a Vapor 4 Life e-cig kit which is garbage in my opinion. You can move up from there. I don't use my e-go anymore but it's there if I need a smaller option or my Legacy breaks which is unlikely since it's built like a brick potty. There are so many options it can get mind boggling. Good luck and happy vaping.

Well let's make that less confusing.

Tank- technically all clearomizers qualify as tanks - simply put it's a top for your battery that holds some volume of liquid juce with nothing to soak up all of it at once.

Atomizer - that's the part that has the heating coil in it - every e-cig needs one.

Cartomozer, that's a cartridge with an atomizer in it, both cartridges and cartomizers have a filler material that soaks up a small volume of juice.

A clearomizer is a small tank with the atomizer built in, like the ego CE4, and a transparent outer case that lets you see the juice inside it. Very easy to fill and clean and, if you don't want to get into rebuilding them, just get the disposable kind and clean them a few times, then toss and get a new one when they quit working.

Many sites and B&M shops sell egos with clearomizers, and, the advantage there is that you can use ego and 510 tops on the ego batteries. Great for beginners, and it lets you explore a few options before getting into something more costly.

If vaping becomes as much a hobby as a means not to smoke for you, you will want to get into mods, vv, vw or something along those lines later, but for now the ego is a good start.

If you're feeling uncertain, there's nothing wrong with an inexpensive kit to try out. SI is a Forum Supplier here, they're known, not a "fly by night". And I see a lot of folks talking about the Volts. They seem well liked.

You could look at it the way I did. Compare it to the cost of cigs. They're getting pretty expensive these days. Even if your first kit only gets you to, oh, say cut back by half on your smoking, how long does it take to "pay for itself"? These days, not long.

(My smoking dropped by--I'm not kidding--over 80% immediately. And in Texas, brand cigs go for around $6.50 a pack. Didn't take long to reach "break even" with a kit.)

You could just pick up a Blu or NJoy disposable. They're all over the place these days. Walgreens is where I found 'em myself. Grabbed a Blu just to try this "e-cig" thing. I made the mistake of getting a Blu kit (bad idea, don't do it) but their disposables are pretty good. That's, oh, $8 to $10 to try out the e-cig thing.

Myself, I tend to suggest folk do the disposables for a "try it out" thing. A good, mid-range starter kit runs around $65 to $80. You might want to play around with disposables at first, see what this vaping thing is all about. Then get a kit. Though, on the other hand, the kits are durable items that last. The mid-range kits are around the price of a carton of cigs but last way, way longer. So they're actually cheaper than smoking in general.

I'm still really new to this too. I got an e go c starter kit with vivi nova tanks. I got a tobacco and a sour apple liquid. I've now gotten several kanger EVOD tanks which I like much better than the vivi novas. I also had to upgrade to higher nicotine in my liquids too. I really like the starter kit that I got from myfreedomsmokes.com. It was about $77 for the 2 ego c batteries, 2 tanks, charger, case and the 2 10ml bottles of e liquid. It was a great little starter kit and relatively cheap.
