The best advice I can give you is to read anything and everything related to DIY within this forum. That includes flavor percentages, recipes, steeping, additives that are a must, and other common mistakes to avoid.

I say this from experience, both in having avoided some by reading stuff ahead of time, and then doing some dumb things that could have been avoided had I read more.

Also, make sure you get familiar with whatever calculator you're going to use (I use ejuicemeup). They're typically not complicated, but trying to sort it out whilst mixing isn't a great idea (spoken from experience).

I haven't had any issues with nic. I've been ordering from RTS, but I'm not sure they are necessarily the best place to order from. From what I can tell, the prices are roughly the same for nic, VG and PG. The problem you're most likely going to encounter is ending buying tons of flavors until you find the ones you like and recipes that you like. I've read that Hangsen and Inawara are good flavor companies but I've never used them. I suppose if I were to advise you on flavor companies I would start with Flavourart.
also youtube search Lordy's guide to DIY. It's really good.

I'm about to start my DIY eliquid and I don't want to make the same mistakes as I did with my vaping, so I'm going to ask for advice. What do I need to start out. Mainly wanting advice on what liquids, especially when it comes to nic. Any advice would be very much apriciated.

Get some VG
Get some PG
Mix 50/50
Vape Away!!

Whatever else you do afterwards, just having a 100ml bottle of 50/50 allpurpose stock on hand is very usefull.
1: you can just vape it as is when you got nothing else
2: got some crappyish liquid? dilute it with your 50/50 stock base!
3: testing out new coil builds, new tank etc
4: you just want to rinse out some old juice from your tank to put new juice in
5: prime a batch of coil heads or cartos

As far as supplies go, you can look at myfreedomsmokes, wicked, and a hundred other vendors for nic base, PG, and VG. Stick with 100% usp grade PG and VG, and you want to be careful with your flavors, stick with reputable companies that deal in strictly natural extracts with no or as little as possible coloring, beware of the obvious bad additives (diacytle and the others...) and concentrate on what you are really looking to do. Are you looking to save money, craft your own special brew, or design something that you could possibly take to market? Mix in small batches (trust me on this one, it sucks to mix up what you think is going to be great only to find that after steep the stuff would be better as air freashener than e-juice...) and then, when you've mixed, breathed, ad steeped it, vape it on your regular rig, if its good, bump up the quantities, if its bad, then play with the percentages and try again:) I use the e-liquid recipe manager lite, which can be found in the playstore if you have an android device, it is simple and intuitive, and allows for small batches. I tend to stick with either Flavor Apprentice flavor extracts or Loran:) as far as containers go, if your favorite liquids come in glass, re-purpose those suckers and bottle your home brew in them! Careful with plastic, as it can hold previous flavors for a long time even after boiling! I hope this helps, it is simple to do once you've got a juice calculator and your compounds in front of you, lkw anything else, preping for the mix is the key, a nice clean area with your measuring implements and compounds and containers ready to go so there is as little fumble factor involved as possible:)

What I did......

I read the stickies, Danny's blog and a TON of threads to get a feel for what percentages people were using and of what brands, as well. I read some more..... a ton. I asked questions about flavoring and steeping. I downloaded ejuicemeup for my calculator.

I ordered nic and a few flavors from Wizard Labs and a bunch more flavors from Ecigexpress. I decided to follow recipes to get a feel for it. I also made single flavors to see what I liked. So far, I'm liking Flavour Art, Inawera and Hangsen a lot. TFA has some really good ones, as well.

My first round of nic was a small bottle at 48mg. I felt safe with that strength and also, not knowing if I'd like all this, I'm glad I got a small bottle. When I got it, I split it. Half went into a glass bottle and into the freezer. The other half got split again. Part diluted with PG and VG, the rest, I used up with recipes.

I've recently ordered 100mg, FOLLOWING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN DILUTING IT. I know now that I'm probably not gonna re-order 100mg. I think I feel better at 60mg or less. I was totally anxious the entire time, lol.

Good luck to you!

P.S. Take lots of notes of things you read and things you mix.

Read my blogs before getting started

then read hoosier's blogs.
