Hi,

I'm wondering what I am doing wrong. The e-cig is just not satisying enough to cut down on the analogs.

I finaly have the inhaling down on the e-cig without coughing and choking which is a positive. However I still crave a cigraette after I finish puffing. I don't know if I am perhaps not puffing long enough, or inhaling enough, or doing something else wrong :( I have a few different strengths of e-liquid so I have starting using one of the stronger ones with the same results <sigh>

I truly want to wean off these nasty cigarettes, I'm just not having much luck.

If anyone has any tips, pointers, ideas, etc. I definitely need them

thank you,
betty

What strength is the strong one? I think 18mg hits more like an analog but it took me 24mg to get that wow im fully nicced up feeling. Its a little harder at first but you get a rhythm going and you vape every 10-20 minutes for a few puffs and maintain the levels, its a lot different than smoking once youve completely cut over. Its going to take a bit for the analog cravings to go away, as you likely also crave other chemicals and the way it feels beyond just the nic addiction. So you do have to use a little will power, but nowhere near as much as you would to just cold turkey drop the habit

What gear are you using, and which strength e-juice?

I am using a modified Joytech Ego C kit. This is what I have:
Joyetech eGo-C Starter Kit - MyFreedomSmokes.com

My e-liquid is menthol flavored tobacco and I have it in 24mg and 12mg. At first I kept choking on the 24mg so it was suggested that I dilute it down to about a 16mg which I did. I still choked and coughed with it so I bought some 12mg which went down much smoother.

Looking back I am wondering if I was choking on the 24 and 16 if it was more technique than strength causing it.

It may have been technique. You have to get accustomed to drawing with your mouth only, and when you remove the ecig from your mouth, then breath deep. You get a far more normal pinch that way. Im under the impression menthol also tends to enhance the TH, so you may be getting more TH and less nic than you may be accustomed to, thus the continued cravings.

Ive used the Ego C, and it was ok, but nowhere near as nice as an EVOD. You can pick one up for about 6 bucks, i think youll find it gives a FAR superior vape and is less hassle. Just make sure you get it at 1.8ohms, so it is suited perfectly for your standard ego batt

Beyond that the best advice i think i can give is to stay strong, if you want to give up the analogs, FIGHT those cravings. Youll find you accustom more to the ecig over a little time, and after a month or two you likely wont want to go back. I tried an analog after about 6 months (1 puff) just to see if i felt the same. Tasted like burning paper, no TH, and weak vapor production:?: lol

Good luck =)

Hi Bettysue! I hope you don't mind that I used that full name. It's rare, and it's also my niece's name, so I'm rather fond of it. And she lives not far from you! But, I digress. First, be kind to yourself. If you need some analogs to get through the day, it's ok. Yes, you want to quit. For some, vaping is easier and for others its just not. What is the pg/vg ratio? I found (and this is weird) that I coughed and choked with a high VG! I have to make sure I use a blend. The PG doesn't bother me. Also, look at some videos on vaping technique and make sure you are comfortable with how it should be done. I was trying to realllyyy inhale it...like an analog. And for some reason, the throat hit on some juices really bothers me. Some people love a throat hit, I don't! As you learn technique, stay with your analogs. If you replace one analog with a vape session every day, you will get there. Try to hold the vape in your mouth for a second or two before exhaling. I learned from ECF that nic in vape enters the bloodstream through membranes, and there are plenty in your mouth. Hang in there and pat yourself on the back. You are in a learning curve! :toast:

When I first started inhaling vapor I coughed too.. but it was because I was directly inhaling to my lungs like I did with a cig. Now I draw the vapor in my mouth first with a few puffs, and then inhale. Much better :) Also, 18 mgs wasnt enough to make me completely quit, once I got 24 I was ok, alternating that with 18 as well as WTA for the rough spots. Just ordered some NET's too. I was a heavy smoker , 2 PAD.

I have also tried cigs a few times since I switched a month and a half ago to 'see what I was missing' and for the gross out factor, and yup, they taste absolutely disgusting now, I cant stand them and dont want to go back.
Keep at it, you'll get there :) Its just a matter of finding what works for you, and the people on this forum are a great help too :)

You might want to consider a few things besides lowering your nic.
Buying juice samples from the top vendors in different flavors.
Johnson Creek, Halo & are good examples.

JC uses only VG & distilled water.
Halo has great quality control & flavors.
Try using clearos instead of cartos.
That one is a no brainer to me.
CE4s are a good start.
AltSmoke has 510 Nanos.
They're smaller & bottom coil.
Really a cinch to fill.
Much smoother vape than CE series.
Just bought a 10 pack for $20 shipped.

There's also a new juice line that's a division of Halo.
It's called eVo. AltSmoke sells it as well.
It's the smoothest stuff I've ever vaped.
Even @ 24mg.

Upgrade to a Joye Twist or Vision Spinner.
You'll really notice the difference.
SmokTek has the best deal on spinners.
They sell a 400 mah mini one in black or stainless, for around $20.
AltSmoke sells the twist in a lot of cool colors, for around the same price.
Don't forget to use coupon codes!

Sure, I will give you two pieces of advice I REALLY think will help:

1) Increase your nicotine mg/perml. What are you using right? How many cigs did you smoke a day?

2) Don't feel bad if you still smoke cigs while using your e-cig. It isn't just nicotine you are addicted to, it is MANY chemicals in the cigs. Feel free to still smoke a few cigs, as long as you are TAPERING.

Eventually, you wont want the cigs anymore at all.

I had a real nasty and prolonged coughing fit that lasted around 15 mins one Saturday a little while back. Once I could breathe again I started researching eCigs. Ordered my first kit and really started to dig into the research.

I picked up NJoys and used them while waiting for my kit to arrive. My fit scared me so much that I did not pick up a smoke during that wait time. My determination from that event may have been a big factor to switch and stick to it.

I'm not looking back. Stay strong. You can do this. :)
You have all these friends to help along the way to smoke free. We believe in you. :vapor:

Okay, sounds like the nic strength is about right, maybe it's time to try a different delivery system, have you tried a simple cartomizer?
Or maybe a nice and smooth clearo could do the trick, like an iClear16.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar enough yet with all the terms and types of equipment so I don't know what you mean by a "smooth clearo" or a "simple cartomizer". If you could put a link to an example of each it would help me see what you are referring to.

sorry to sound so blonde.

I used that same starter set up and would get dry hits galore because those cartridges don't hold much juice. At the time I was a noob myself and thought I'd have to give up on vaping because the throat irritation was unbearable. I second the advice to try the Kanger Evod, easy to fill and keep clean, it has replaceable wicks, and the flavor is very clean. You don't have to refill as often either.

Good luck and hope you find a set up that works for you.

it may not be equipment but simple habit.

Your brain is used to analogs. The e cig is foreign to it. What helped me was every time i even had the slightest urge to smoke i picked up my pv and vaped. Every time... Seriously you may vape alot for a few days doing this but over the course of a week or two you will re teach your brain the new habit. Sounds strange but it totally works.

Voltage matters a lot. it changes everything, flavor, vapor production and throat hit. since everyone is different, your battery output voltage may be too high or too low to deliver a satisfying vape for you.
most people i know upgraded almost immediately from the ego style battery to a full variable voltage/wattage device.
using these you can change your voltage from 3.0 volts to 6.0 volts in 0.1 increments allowing you to find the perfect setting.
once you find that sweet spot oh it's like magic. :p
