Starting to realize more watts doesn't equal more flavor

Thanks @Tommy-Chi I see! I don't think I'm ready for dropping yet. I hate the fact that there is no tank :( lol. I guess the grudging would be considered an rdta? @kbeam418 just built a coil at 3.5 mm 7 wraps it's .3 resistance hoping bigger diameter more cotton more flavor!? Thanks for the tip. Do u rewick with or without the ring on?

Dripping is easy. If you're working with an RBA/RDTA then an rda is basically the same thing.

I take the ring off when I rebuild the coils or rewick.

I leave the wick ring in place and just lightly pack the cotton in the channel. More surface= more flavor. I've never tried 3.5 so I can't tell you.

@kbeam418 @Tommy-Chi i left the ring on and found it easier to just slightly stuff the cotton in the holes. 3.5 7 wraps at 3.3 ohm tasting amazing at 48 watts no sign of burn or dry hit. Great flavor and no leaks yayy!!!

With pre made coils I feel like they can take more wattage no? But the flavor isn't as good as rba's.
Thats right.

I will gladly lower my watts for better flavor every time.

I always vape single coil even in dusl coil attys, and I usually vape at 8-15 watts

@Two_Bears so you vape single coils in dual coils deck? Why is that? What type of deck are you using? I've heard that dual coils equal more surface so more flavor? Also someone on here had mentioned single coils. I went with the more surface more flavor theme on this build and did two 3.5 24 gauge kanthal wires with 7 wraps. It's great at 45-50 watts .33 ohm. No dry hits and good flavor :) even at 60 it's still good but vaping at 50.

When you have dusl coils you are getting your Atty Twice as HOT.

Vsporizing Twice as much Juice but getting only ,20-25% more vapor from my experience

Cutting your battery life in half.

I single coil dual coil deckz by installing a single coil and plugging the unused Juice Wells with cotton and held in place by the barrel that goes over the build deck.

I have rocked single coils in the Goblin Mini, Bellus, Orchid V3, silverplay, Silverplay Nano. And about a dozen RDAs.

My favorite flavor chasibg RTA is the Goblin Mini and silverplay nano.

@Two_Bears could you post a pic of a single coil set up on a dual deck?

If you're getting dry hits on a .31 at anything over 55W or so, it's a wicking problem. I have a .3 in my Griffin right now and it works fine up to 75-80W or higher, but it's not necessary to vape it that high. I agree with whoever told you to just tuck the cotton in lightly, not stuff it in all the way down.

Single coils on two post, dual coil RDAs/RTAs/etc.

@ddirtyvapes thanks for the reply! Can I post a picture of your coil with the cotton? I'm getting pretty good hits all the way up to 65watts. I really stuffed the cotton in the coil as well its snug using 3.5 diameter seven wraps 24 gauge kanthal. Thanks :)

Yes, I will post a photo a little later. I haven't had the Griffin that long so I'm not pretending I'm an expert at it... RDAs are more my thing and it does have a bit of a unique wicking method. However, mine is certainly working well enough and I've been rebuilding on other toppers/decks long enough to feel confident that the wicking is almost there.

Are you still noticing a gradual improvement? Perhaps your wick just needed breaking in. Sorry if you mentioned it but what exactly are you using?

Also, there is no one answer as to whether a dual or single coil will give off more vapor or flavor. You can't compare the two unless comparing the same gauge wire, the same wraps, same ID, and same wattage/voltage. Changing any of those variables will change the outcome. A single coil with a large surface area and very low resistance will give off more vapor and flavor (and use more battery life more quickly) than a non-subohm dual coil with a smaller total surface area will at the same wattage, for example.

@ddirtyvapes no worries appreciate you replying ! I used this wicking technique here-on YouTube grimmgreens aromamizer vs Griffin. Worked great. I didn't soak the cotton at all until I put the cap on. I'm using 24 gauge kanthal 6 wraps 3.5 diameter with bacon cotton. Gave me a .33 resistance it was amazing all day and right of the start here and there. I'm on my third tank and getting great flavor still. I think it may have needed breaking in! You can't put a single coil on the Griffin right?

I'm pretty sure you could put a single coil in the Griffin the same way you can on the Velocity or any other dual-post, dual-airflow RBA. There is no single-coil airflow option on the Griffin either so it might be a bit airy or not as flavorful as in an RBA that has a dedicated single-coil airflow configuration... but it is *possible*.

To be clear, I am referring to a single coil set-up as in the video I posted, being centered in the deck, not one coil on one side. This at least evens out the airflow when there is no single coil option.

Like I said, I believe it is POSSIBLE but the way the wick channels are set up and the way the airflow works, I don't believe it would be at all satisfying in this particular tank and probably difficult to wick. Normally I am someone who prefers single coils... but a single, centered coil isn't amazing on the Velocity. It's fine though. IME toppers that are meant for dual coils usually work better with dual coils :) But it depends.

I have not seen that video from Grimm. I will check it out.

So far I'm pretty happy with the Griffin. After tinkering with it all weekend and trying different wicking methods found one that works nice! I'm vaping it at 60-65 watts although no burnt hits all the way up to 80 watts. I think you are right @ddirtyvapes the wicking might have been "breaking in". Really enjoying the flavor. I also switched juices as well, one was pancake man and the other is a filled doughnut flavor so similar in taste but was definitely able to distinguish when the new juice was in full effect!! Thanks for all the help guys!
