hi all,
is any one else coming across this in your state?
it doesn't matter what the dollar amount is. no state
i.d.,no pre-payed credit card.
here our state i.d. info is entered into the billing system
at point of purchase. i know they are trying to curb illegal
activities but, what do they think i am going to do with
fifteen dollars.
regards
mike

i am not sure. i would assume so as the are essentially money transfers.
the i.d. requirement is for the purchase and reloading of the card.

Gift Cards (non-reloaable) and Debit Cards (which reloadable prepaid cards are considered) are legislated differently under federal law. I wonder if Minnesota lumped them together?

i am not breaking the law. its nobody's business i just put
$15.00 on a pre-payed card.
they are not just asking for i.d.. they are entering my i.d.
info into the register.

mike

I agree, it is none of their darn business to track your activities.
If they are trying to prevent sketchy/illegal activity then only ask for id over a certain $ limit like 500$
Edit:Suppose they started asking for id when buying milk
Actually in NY I got ided for buying dry gas, I think it is used for illegal activities.
Was at Walmart self checkout and I had to wait for an associate to verify my id.

You say you not breaking the law, but they have to take your word for it. Since many people in the past did break the law by using pre-paid cards, then a new law had to come in to effect to protect you and others, from illegal activities.

And since you not breaking the law, then you have nothing to worry about. Show your ID and move on with your life.

$15.00 does not protect me nor any one else from anything.
the criminal element will just find another way to launder their money.
they don't need to even track at point of sale. the cards companies
are already required to monitor and report cash only transactions.
sooner or later one has to register online to get the money back
out.there programs can detect inordinate activity.
that just leaves law abiding citizens left to track every penny they spend
with these cards.
