Steel Wool as wicking material?

Regular steel wool? Don't see how it would be possible. That's made of low-carbon steel, and passivation is not possible with that, to my knowledge. That means that there is no way to make it non-conductive, and it would short-circuit the atomizer. Also, a dry burn of it may cause it to combust, I'd guess, especially on the finer grades.

Stainless steel wool or mesh? Maybe, depending upon the product, and treatment. I'll post a couple of threads for you to consider. First one discusses stainless steel as wicks and filler. The second brings up possible issues with the treatment that's commonly used to make a non-conductive layer on it. Not sure if that was ever resolved.

Personally, I would not recommend it. I prefer cotton, though some have misgivings about that, as well.
