Steeping Blues

Hi everyone,
I'm a new member and vaper. 1 month cig free. In a month I've managed to spend a small fortune trying out flavors and vendors. I've had some really good flavors and a couple of Aweful ones. So far my favorites are Swagger from Pink Spot Vapors, Smokey Mountain, and Wild Willie, both from VapingZone. I was excited to order Casablanca from BackWoods Brew and when I received it I immediately poured a few drops into my atomizer....ugh, yech!!! I learned about steeping from these pages yet I am like a child with a new toy everytime a new flavor hits my mailbox. So I have to steep this juice and apparently all the juices from the BackWoods Brew.

Can somebody explain to me why some Vendors require steeping of their products while others do not?

I'd appreciate any input.

My guess is some are mixed for each order (have to steep), or some are a pre-mixed inventory (don't have to steep). But I am still new myself and have no experience with steeping.

Yes I would like to know more about steeping. How do you know what needs to be steeped and how long should it steep if it does need it??¿

I know that China Juices don't need steeped, as they have been steeping forever practically (depending on how their shipments move, but pretty fast) All USA juices that are made here!! Like say Virgin Vapors, The Vapor Room, they all need steeping cuz they make your juices for you usually right when you order so its good to let them steep. Fruits, tobacco flavors, baked goods they all really need steeped, you can get away with coffee's or cinnamons not being steeped, but you wont always get there POW of flavor and intensity until it has steeped. Here are some great videos, and second from the bottom Snow explains how to steep, as that is how I do my steeping as well as when I TRY diy'in I steep it in hot water rotating the water every 15 min. But ejuice you by, I would go buy the video! Good Luck

Since we're on the subject of steeping....I know expiration dates has been discussed in other threads but recently I made a purchase from one of our regular relatively local vendors. I ordered one bottle of hi nic and a bottle of low nic thinking I would mix a bit of both for myself since I prefer a lower nic than my hubby. Both bottles were our usual chocolate. The high nic had only an expiration date of march 2014. The low nic...had a mix date of Dec 2010 with an expiration date of Dec 2012. The label was a bit faded and the eliquid color and flavor were both a bit off. I probably should have contacted them, we usually drive the nearly hour to shop in store there but like this order we have had them ship occasionally. Rather than complain I just chose to toss it up to them not selling much low nic but at the same time just feel that if it were my business I don't think I would even sell that bottle if the label and color appeared off. What would you have done? They are a supplier here so I rather not mention names

I have no patience so I usually try my new flavors out as soon as I get them. If I don't like them I set them aside and come back to them in a week or 2 to see how they taste.

It might be ok.
As a juice steeps the color will often change, but you're right that if they stamp the born date and expiration date on the bottle they shouldn't sell stock that is THAT old.

See, that's what I was thinking. Im used to the juices darkening a bit with steeping, especially with flavors like chocolate but this liquid was much more pale than the higher nic bottle as well as my DIY chocolate blends that are only a few weeks old. It honestly didn't have a chocolate aroma at all. I ended up tossing it but haven't brought myself to purchase there again yet. Their chocolate is usually wonderful. I will purchase from them again but will most likely shop for liquids from them in store only so I can see what I'm buying.

Yes that is strange. All of my liquids either stay the same or darken. I've never had one that gets lighter.

wow...i love casablanca, and i never steep it. it works great right out of the mail...but i use clearos or tanks. it does tend to get better as the days/weeks pass, though. and i've had some juices that i couldn't stand at first grow on me after a couple of weeks. once you stop smoking cigs, your taste buds come back, apparently. maybe it's a matter of time...
i don't get the whole steeping thing, either. some people are a little crazy about it, talking about it as if it were wine. but there is some truth to it, i suppose.

I also noticed that I didn't like casablanca at first, so I am currently steeping that myself, and I did notice that the smell is improving, but I havent tried to resmoke it yet. Gonna give it at least a week or two. But malty toffee from bwb...i liked it right out of the box...and that is improving also... So far it seems like all flavors and smells improce with steeping, so doing it to ones that don't require it isnt going to hurt anything. Good luck. Try malty toffee...its good.

In my experience everything needs steeping. Even if you like it right off, it will get better after time. Some longer than others. I don't like it cuz I'm impatient...very impatient. But it's the Law of Juice.

Sometimes it takes some time for the flavors to meld together, so that it tastes like the mixer intended it to be. You absolutely do not NEED to steep your juice- but some get better with age. In my experience, some juices are best when steeped, and some are best when they are fresh. It seems like lighter flavors, like fruits, are better right away. Tobacco flavors seem to be better after they sit for a while. Its all up to your personal preference. If I get a juice and I'm not into it, I put it down on the shelf for a week or two, and then come back to it. Sometimes its pretty much the same, but sometimes they change pretty drastically.

Yeah, I've found that to be pretty much right. If you like it, it will probably get better. If you don't, probably not. There are exceptions of course.

you can steep by just leaving the bottle in the dark and shaking it up every couple of days. you can also open it up and let air get to it. I guess you can also put the bottle in a hot tap water wash and I hear that seems to get flavors to come out.

but I have also heard you could always add a drop of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to it and it sometimes help if its nasty so its not like u would ruin it, and it has helped me!

I seems to me the steeping thing is kind of like left overs tasting better the next day. Maybe the flavors need time to mix to come out properly.

My thought on the subject is dependent on the flavor and base fluid. I like to simply leave the cap off the bottle of new or newly mixed juice for about 24 hrs... it does seem to help with overall flavor especially high nic/ pg.
