It really is a matter of taste. no pun intended. I like using japanese organic cotton pads because it is easier for "me" to wick and very compact to carry around. A lot of people like rayon because it is dirt cheap. But to get the dirt cheap price you have to buy a $20 gigantic box of it plus shipping. Which will last you AND all your vaping pals for several lifetimes.

Japanese organic cotton (most people buy kgd or ko gen doh) is $12 bucks for a 60 pack. I use 3-4 cotton pads per month. Buying organic japanese cotton for more than that is an extreme rip off. I hear a lot of brick and mortars are charging $1 per pad. If you use just regular organic cotton, which is what I started on, there is a cotton-y, clean yet soggy socky taste to your first few hits and for me the dry hits off a regular (bought at drugstore) organic cotton takes a couple drips and hits before that taste goes away. With Shisheido or Ko Gen Doh, I only notice a slightly sweet cotton taste for the first few hits, but nothing like that after.

have fun looking for your perfect wick!

Is there a difference between sterile, organic cottons? Also i have heard that using cellucotton (rayon ) isnt safe. What the best to use.

I've used sterile gauze. There is a bit of hydrogen peroxide on it that you can taste for a puff or two. I don't know if sterile cotton is the same but I suspect it is.

I've used organic cotton and liked it when I was using it. I have now been using Graham Cellucotton rayon for about half a year I think. I've never seen anything I believed that indicates it's any worse than cotton. It does however wick faster than cotton which is great. You have to put more into a coil than with cotton though or performance drops, the opposite of cotton.

Koh Gen Do cotton is said to be just as fast at wicking as rayon but I haven't tried it myself.

I used the CVS sterile cotton before I started using graham cellu cotton, the CVS stuff is good, you just have to change it more often - lately my throat is a little scratchy.
I'm going to order up some Japanese cotton, not sure which one yet, most say the Ko jen do stuff is the best, to see if it clears up my scratchiness.

I use organic cotton pads from CVS. They have never been an issue for me. The organic cotton balls I got from Walgreens had a taste I didn't like, and boiling them is a pain.

Hmph. The Walgreens cotton balls are what I started with about a month ago. I thought that was what it was supposed to taste like in my RTAs. Maybe I need to go by CVS and pick up some of their organic cotton to see if it tastes different.

What if you dont boil the organic cotton?, does the cellucotton have to be boiled

There's no science to support that boiling any type of cotton provides any benefit beyond what your imagination can dream up... it's a waste of time, water and energy. It might only be useful if you are picking your cotton direct from the field it grew in...

Sterile simply means it is bacteria free. It doesn't mean it is chemical free...

for all intents and purposes all if any chemicals and or contaminants
that may be present in the cotton are at such low percentages as to be
rendered a non factor.there is more contaminants in your basic tap water.

Rayon is the best wick I've used and I have not seen a single shred of evidence that it is a hazard.

Same here and I've used cotton yarn, cotton balls(both organic and regular), cotton gauze, muslin, hemp, japanese cotton pads, a sample of cotton bacon I got with an order from a vendor. The cellucotton is the best wicking, cleanest tasting of any of them.

If you have a Sally's Beauty Supply near you they sell it in to different sized boxes. I got the smaller sized box and it was around $12 after tax, out the door and should still be enough for my lifetime.

Yes, but that doesn't mean one can't taste them...
