(Still a) Newbie: Questions regarding KR808D-1 & more frustration.

Hi again!

Ordered a couple boxes of KR808 carto's from KR808D-1 Cartomizers (Use with DSE901) - in addition to a few bottles of liquid from Good Prophets.

No matter what liquid I use, I can't seem to get any flavor with my vape. Specifically, the Wintergreen from GP tastes like literally nothing at all. We are using Riva 901 batteries with these carto's.

I have also tried several we have from Vixen Vapors, and those flavors have now turned rather muted as well. The carto's also seem to hold on to old flavors, (e.g. one fill with an Almond Joy-esque liquid, then a later full refill with Banana Split = still tasting like Almond Joy). This also seems to be the case now with liquids from E-Smokey Treats, too. Nothing tastes nearly as good as it did before we got these, and usually you can't even tell what you're vaping.

Am I doing something wrong? At this point it seems to be just wasted money in search of the "perfect" e-cig and liquid. I know it can take a lot of tries to find out what works best, but this is getting ridiculous.

Here's the mixed percentage & flavors, if it helps:

EST: 50/50 VG/PG - Cinnamon Bun, Cherry Cola, Blackberry
VV: 40 VG/60 PG - Banana Split, Almond Ahoy, Pralines & Cream, Blueberry Cotton Candy
GP: "Flavorfulls" - Wintergreen, Peach Pie, Cherry Vanilla (not sure on the %.)

Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem and it lasted a very long time for me (a month+!). A lot of people do, though most report a week or two and not a month like me. Unfortunately it seems to be part of the adjustment process. What was really weird was that my first week or so I was fine.

I found Vixen Vapor's Candy Cane retained flavor for me even during that time. I got triple flavor. If you do that though, get a small bottle because, now that my taste is back, triple flavor is way too much for me. Other flavors I could still taste were Got Vapes Belgian Waffle which is my favorite even now, and "D's all day" from Vapealicious. In general mints and menthols (even if you weren't a menthol smoker).

Also, drink liquids, especially water, to keep the chemicals off your mouth, and brush your teeth often. It helps some but mostly you just have to ride it out. :(

Hi.

Refilling standard cartos with other flavors will always mix the flavors. With typical juices, any solids will stay in the carto, and they always seem to end up with a darker concentrate at the bottom as they are used, in my experience.

Some people try to clean their cartos with water or alcohol. I can't recommend trying that with water, as the filler will probably mildew before it dries, unless you bake them dry. Alcohol is fairly effective, but somewhat expensive to get pure grain alcohol. Rubbing alcohol is cheap, but poisonous, so...

I would recommend trying a pack of CE2 clearomizers, if you have not yet. They do require some fiddling with for best results, but they can be made to last a long time (like atomizers,) and are good for switching flavors. Just rinse them with hot water, dry the wicks, and they are ready for another flavor with little residual taste.

Three weeks for me, and all austerity said with the following additions:

- you can try vaping a plain menthol juice - it usually numbs your taste buds, but after half an hour or so you might get some flavor back

- do not drink any liquids - water is the best, or any liquids without of sugar; also hot drinks dull the flavors, and coffee doesn't help

- do not throw away any juice - go back to them in a month or so, you may have big surprises

- interesting: a Candy Cane was my first all day vape too as my taste buds started coming back! there may be something about this flavor

- cartos definitely hold on to flavors; you either have to clean them between fills, which can be a PITA, or toss them - they are after all consumables. I used the boiling method with success, but I'm too lazy to actually do that regularly... (see here: Taste Your Juice | Cleaning Boge 510 LR Cartos)

Thank you for the prompt response, but I haven't smoked in seven months. I've went through the period of taste buds returning, etc. I'm not a seasoned veteran or anything, but I've tried my best to learn the ins and outs of vaping in that seven months.

This is my first try with carto's, so that's why I wondered if I was doing something wrong. You can taste X flavor rather well, using an atty + cart with the Riva battery.

Also, I second the Candy Cane from VV - it is one of their best! You can always taste it no matter what gear you use.

Is it possible the Wintergreen was messed up during preparation? Not even a menthol-ish taste? We have everything from tobacco flavors to fruits, and have never had one without ANY flavor.

Another example: Vaped a carto down till the fill was white, then refilled with nine drops of Banana Split. Didn't do it all at once, added three at a time letting them settle for about five minutes.

I def wouldnt use different juices in a carto. Any flavor with a very distinct taste is going to linger, even if you try to clean the carto. Once I find a juice I like, I designate a carto to that juice and only put that juice in it throughout the life of the carto. That way you wont get mixed flavors. I dont even try to clean cartos bc its a pain and a lot of cartos dont work even close to as well as when their new after a cleaning. Cartos are cheap enough that if you can get even 1 week out of a carto, your def getting your moneys worth, without cleaning them. I get 2-3 weeks from one carto so I dont even bother going thru the hassle of trying to clean them.
Get an atty and a drip tip if you dont have one already. Use the atty and direct drip to test juices to see if you like them. DOnt use cartos to test juices bc then if you dont like it you waste a carto, or have to try to clean it, and as you can see, some flavors dont go away. Direct drip with a new juice, and once you know you like one, fill a carto. That way you wont waste good cartos on nasty juices

Ah ok. Sorry about that.

Hi Damselle,

what type of 808's are you using??

These seem to be Kanger's, from what I can tell in the link.

The Wintergreen was tested on a fresh carto. Also, I know that mixing flavors isn't the best idea, but usually I get some hint of what was just put in. Didn't have this problem with 901 atty's & carts. Though honestly, I'm just wondering why I get zero taste, now. No matter what the liquid. :(

Damselle: I had read that carto's were more convenient, and I grew tired of constantly inspecting an atty for loose cart threads, refilling so often, etc. So far I do enjoy it, but the fact remains that there is zero flavour now with most of my liquids. It's just hot vape, which is not why I do this.

dlsw: They weren't prefilled. I had one work out well, freshly filled. Then when new liquid (the Wintergreen from my initial post) arrived, I tried it on a different (unused) carto. No flavor, which is what prompted me to inquire about what I may be doing wrong.

I haven't seen this problem posted anywhere else, but I do hope maybe I've just missed it and it's really not just me!
