First and foremost, Ive used the same juice for over a year. Im not a flavor switcher type (not yet at least).

So far Ive tried the ERA and the Chalice. Ive built a ton of coils and tried a ton of wick materials, big and small and every combination in between. From micro coils to high ohm/high surface area coils to small and long wicks. Different air hole position and size. I have a VVG, so I tried adjusting the voltage.

The problem is FLAVOR....no matter what I do, everything Ive ever tried has severely lacked in flavor.

If theres one thing in common with every coil setup Ive ever made, they all work great except for flavor. I can build a factory-made looking coil like theres no tomorrow, but the flavor has always been extremely extremely extremely mute, to the point where it tastes like a bland crappy juice, which I know it doesnt because Ive used it for the last year.

I really need to get to the bottom of this. Its been a problem for me since I got my first ERA.

I'm sure I won't be of much help but have you tried the RM2? It's the first RBA I've used and first coil I've ever made. I thought I liked my juice before and didn't know how good it could be. My first coil was 2.1 I have since made a 1.4 and I'm in love. It could be the RBA and not your coil skillz HTH

what r u comparing it to? which production carto or atty has the great flavor u r missing? that info might help the gurus here

Ive used HH357 attys for almost a year. They are by far the best atty Ive ever used.

I actually have the RM2 in route to my house, should be here next week.

If you're interested, I'd be happy to build you a wick+coil and mail it to you.

I'm currently using a cotton/micro coil setup that's giving me the best flavor I've ever experienced.

PM me if you're interested. Again, I'd be more than happy to do this for you.

I tried cotton just like in super-x tut and to me it tastes too much like.....cotton. I never had amazing results with cotton so far.

Before HH357s I was stuck on shorty 1.7 cartos. Then, I quickly realized the disadvantages of cartos after a short while, but for the first day or so the flavor was amazing, but I got sick of replacing them every other day or so.

EDIT; Its been months since I used cartos, but I just now decided to take a new 1.7 shorty carto out of the drawer and I must say the flavor is great.

I wrestled with my RM2 most of the day today. I was almost ready to throw in the towel and decided to keep trying new things. I too was getting a cotton taste and an unusual overpowering sweetness. I think my main issue was that I was rolling the cotton wick to dense. The last wick I made, I rolled a very small amount of cotton very loosely and ran it through the coil. I trimmed both sides as close to the coil as possible and it changed everything! Keep trying. When you get it, you'll be glad you did!

Weird one ..... ??

Maybe it is time to try flavor switching ??

All I can say is from my own personal experience (with a chalice) that I could build a coil almost any which way (with slica) that tastes better than any carto ever did. The HH is a different story .... The first 20 hits off a clean HH I think tastes better than my builds but my coils hold the flavor longer than the HH ever did. I was cleaning the HH every dam day :( Now I can go weeks (with sever REOs) and not have to rebuild anything.

Hmmmm ...... Keep trying it can be done.

One thing you didn't mention is different wires ???

Are you by chance using nichrome ?? That stuff tastes nasty IMHO ......
For the chalice I use my silica (not sure what dia) doubled over with 4 wraps of 30g Kanthal a1 and its a solid 1.2 or 1.3 every time.
Super simple and super tasty. But I have some 30g Kanthal a1 from another vendor that tastes terrible :(

I'm still on my very first purchase of silica ever (50 ft) and worry when thats gone my next silica will taste different .... Just like the wire.

I'm with you on the cotton I gave it several weeks of trying every day .....
My verdict: Cotton blows ......

I've tried it loose, med, tight, short, med, long, I've made it look like every pic of every build on here with 30g, 28g, 27g, .... yada yada ......

Answer is cotton is not for me.

Yep, I was having this same issue, less cotton made a huge difference. I also found that not having the coils so close together helped. Do note that I vape naturally extracted tobaccos exclusively and a NET vendor suggested I try looser coils. He did acknowledge that looser coils go against conventions coil building wisdom. I'm guessing a little space between the coils helps with NETs because they tend to gunk up coils faster?

Can you post a photo of your coil wicked as if you were getting ready to vape. As close up as possible. That would help others try to help you get to the bottom of this.

I wish I could, I cant make my camera take a decent macro shot to save my life.

I dont know if flavor switching will work for me...since I already know I cant get good flavor with RBAs...once I figure out how to make my every-day juice taste as good as in the HH357, then I might try switching it up.

Im using 32awg Kanthal A1 for my coils but I have 24 and 28awg on order. Ive also used the pre-made coils that Avidvaper sells. I use the 2.5ohm ones and trim the wick to the width of the Chalice. Yes I torch everything before I install. Surprisingly, these pre made Avidvaper coils have given me the best flavor, but not by much...

Air flow, air flow, air flow. I have read several of your posts in the past. All of them with the same result. Have you enlarged your air hole? If not give it a try. If you have then by process of elimination you already found your problem. Its the Juice!!! There really isn't that much difference between most of the RBA's and how they vape, said for the coil and air inlet hole. I can get just as good results vaping a cheap phoenix rba or my era or my rm1 or rm2. Some juice that I tried just didnt like a RBA. It is just that simple. Just for S&G's try a cheap genesis atty and see what the result is.

I have the RM2 on the way and will give that a try. I enlarged the hole on my ERA and it made no difference in flavor. I dont think I can handle taking a drill bit to my Chalice.

I hope its not the juice. Its been my thing for over a year now.

I often sit back and wonder just how the HH357 works so well. Compared to even the smallest RBA coils, the HH357 coil is even more micro.

I would love to know the HH357 secrets and then apply it to my own RBA. My guess is it has something to do with airflow, fast wicking via airflow, and fast vaporization.
