I'm not sure why but I'm still getting that burnt taste when I vape, I admit I haven't been blowing on the atomizer to clear out the liquid but I believe it is the juice I'm using that is causing the problems.
My current set up:
DSE901 with USB pass through connected to APC powerpack
Johnsons Creek juice 10 sample flavors

I bought my Johnsons Creek over 4 months ago when they were having problems I believe with their production and some deal with green liquid? (mine is brownish/clear yellow). I'm thinking this is the problem but so far all liquid I have purchased (from puresmoker or johnsons creek) has had this very "sugary" smell and taste to it rather than actual flavor (except maybe the kona coffee). Should I buy new liquid and new atomizers or is this just the way it is supposed to taste.

Also on another note, sometimes when I vape I get the usual dry mouth but also an itchy throat causing me to cough, anyone else get this?

I noticed that after the burning poly taste, the fiber inside would start getting a little brown.
If I tried vaping at all with it, it tasted awful.
I had to use another cart.

What I did was make sure the cart was well filled, but not overfilled.
Then I used a paper clip to pull a bit of the fiber just over the top of that cart.
As long as that barely-protruding fiber is well wetted, it wont stick to the atty or burn up.
Its been working for me for the past 2 days with pretty heavy vaping:)

having the same problem. i have tried everything to get rid of this taste. even tried a different juice but no luck. also tried cleaning the atomizer out by sitting it in cola tried alcohol tried boiling in water, after those didnt work i threw it in some gas for about 30 minutes ran it under water and boiled again. still nothing. even tried dripping then puffing dripping then puffing but all that did was make my stomach hurt. now im using a sour blast spray candy before i draw from it to help avoid the taste.

I change the cartridge filler, reload the juice, and let it sit for a few minutes while I go brush my teeth. Appears to me that the burnt taste lingers in your mouth for a long time making it seem like you are still getting a burnt taste from the e-cig. Then in the future, the second you taste an off taste, stop and reload juice.

When I first started vaping, my new, freshly-charged batteries always seemed to give me a terrible burned taste, sometimes even a bit skunky. I haven't had a battery do this in a while and have been thinking that it's because they aren't new and maybe not sending out as many amps (does that sound right?).

Anyway, because I've read that the passthroughs are constant like a new battery, I have been concerned that the one I just ordered will give me a consistant burned taste. At least with the batteries, I can puff, puff, puff (without inhaling) a few times until that nastiness is gone.

Sure sounds to me like your cart filler is too dry. 2-3 drops in mine certainly wouldn't be enough to thoroughly load it. Try starting out with a new cart, carefully take out the filler (called wool), fill your empty cart half full and then carefully replace the wool, slowly to let it soak. If you counted the drops is takes to make half full, thats what your cart will hold.

i'll just throw my 2cents in here as well , try vaping off of it (mouth inhale) without the cart. Do you still get a burning flavor? this was happening to my constantly and i still don't quite know the cause.

Even with a brand new topped up cart i would get a horrible burning flavor , but if i dripped into the atty , and took the cart out , i would get a wonderful juice flavor with no burning at all

I believe the issue is caused when the cartridge contacts the atomizer and it burns the actual wool instead of vaporizing the juice, especially when it starts to dry out. I think if I drip directly into the atomizer before putting the cart in and topping off would help but the smell permeates into the atomizers so everything needs to be cleaned out first. The heat from the atomizer is from direct contact rather than through radiation so it causes these problems, it helps to "puff" out the cartridge wool by washing it off, drying it and then plucking it so it spreads out more, this lets the liquid sit in between the folds and allows the liquid further from the atomizer to vaporize before it starts to dry out and burn. Also cutting the wool in half helps to keep it away from the atomizer, since there is enough heat to radiate and vaporize the liquid even if it is not in direct contact (less vapor but still works).

I haven't tried washing it with soda, I believe carbonated water (seltzer) would work well to get rid of the smell and keep it away by making sure the wool is not too congested in the cartridge but letting it expand with space in between.

Im really frustrated with my 901...after using it for a few days to a week , it tastes horrible! I dont use filler, I only drip so I know its not polyester..I've tried cleaning the atty and switching them out..the new atty will work fine for a few days and have that same horrible taste!!! Its not the juice b/c my 801 works fine all the time..

Is this a common 901 thing?

:DOk, I'm pretty good at topping up my carts, and checking to make sure they aren't dry. Last night I took a puff on my ecig and got a really really really bad burnt taste/smell. I was in my car at the time and literallly thought there was a fire somewhere (I kinda liken the smell to that smell you get when you throw an analog out the window only to have it blow back into the car and burn your backseat leaving a horrible burning smell). I didn't connect right away that it was the cig. I took one more puff in puzzlement and realized OMG it's my ecig! ICK!

I pulled to the side of the road, and thoroughly wetted my cart (nothing looked burnt....) and dripped onto my atty. I cringingly tried again.... AHHHHH ICK!!!! NO luck!!!! I put it away and drove home.
At home I blew out the atty for like 10 minutes (atty really smelled..... made me sick).... didn't help. I read through this forum about cleaning it out and tried the dry burn method someone posted about. Weeeeelllll It made a few puffs of nasty smelling smoke (maybe something was ON the atty:confused:???) and sizzled a bit. I then blew the atty out again... a lil better...not much though....still smelled. After that I soaked it in everclear for an hour, ran it under HOT running water for 5 minutes and let it dry overnight standing up on a paper towel.
Today I just took a fresh cart thoroughly wetted it, dripped a drop or two on atty and.....hoped for the best....Well I've been puffing for 10 minutes now. It seems to be working ok, I don't smell any lingering funky smells... Taste is a bit better than before (ok so maybe it was overdue to get cleaned).
Maybe this will help someone, maybe not, but at least ya'll got a story outta me :p:D:D:D Good luck to you all!!!

Oh, yeah... If it helps I use a black 510, and a diy liquid of about (I kinda eyeball it, not sure exactily):
70% VG
12% Loranns Keoke Coffee
10% Loranns Black walnut
7% Loranns Butter Rum
!%- a drop of menthol ejuice I got from theSafeSmoke (to lift up flavor) & 1-2 drops of everclear (to thin a little bit).
