I call this the “StormCloud cleaning method”
I tried boiling and other methods but still had a burnt taste in a few of my carts until I remembered an old school experiment making a plaster volcano.
I discovered this method seems to cleans well and helps to eliminate that burnt taste from a 510 cart or addys. (should also work on 901cart and addys but I don’t have any to try)

List of Materials:
Dirty 510 Carts or, addys.
1- 5ml clear plastic syringe (no tip required).
½ cup of distilled white vinegar.
½ cup hot tap water.
3- 6 oz glass containers –or- cups –or- shallow drink glasses..
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda.
½ cup of distilled water.
Two or three sheets of toilet paper (non fragrance).
2 sheets paper towels.
Piece of cardboard. 6” X 6”.
Several toothpicks. ( one per addy or cart)

Prep::
Fill each of three shallow glass containers as follows:
Glass #1, Distilled white vinegar (1/2 Cup)
Glass #2, ½ cup Hot Water and 1 tsp of bicarbonate of soda (stir until completely dissolved)
Glass #3, ¾ cup distilled water.
Place the three shallow glass containers side by side on a paper towel.
Remove the plastic or rubber cap from your Cart or addy and any internal rubber rings set aside, out of the way (where you won’t loose them).

Directions:
1. Gently slip each dirty cart (mouthpiece end) onto the 5ml syringe (use a little force as it will be a tight fit).
2. With the cart attached (on the syringe) submerge the tip of the cart into the vinegar (Glass #1) and pump the syringe 5 to 10 times to flush out any e-liquid and get the vinegar flushed well through the unit.
3. Pop off the flushed out cart and drop into Glass #1, let soak for 30-60 min.
4.After soaking, pull out the carts (one at a time) and Repeat step 3 but instead of dropping it back into the vinegar, pump or blow air through it to get out any excess vinegar.
5. Drop the cart into bicarb solution (glass #2), you may notice bubbles coming out of the cart as the chemical “StormCloud” reaction begins.
Actually it is this chemical reaction:
(Vinegar) Acetic Acid: CH3COOH -> CH3COO- + H+
Sodium Bicarbonate: NaHCO3 -> Na+ + HCO3 -
H++ HCO3- -> H2CO3 Carbonic Acid
H2CO3 -> H2O + CO2
6. Allow to soak 10-20 min. (this will also help deodorize the cart)
7. Place the cart back on the syringe and rinse out the bicarb solution by sucking in distilled water from Glass #3 and pumping it out into glass #2 (so you don’t contaminate the distilled water) do this 3 or four times per cart.
8. Blow out each rinsed cart into paper towel No.2 and set aside.
9. Tear a single sheet of plain white toilet paper into quarters, tightly roll each quarter sheet and slip the roll into the cart or addy until it just touched the bridge or filler material (press in gently, do not twist or use any force).
10. stick the toothpicks into the cardboard, place the cart (rolled toilet paper end down) onto the toothpick. Slide toothpick into toilet paper roll center just enough to hold up the cart (do not force the toothpick into the cart or addy).
11. Set aside ad allow to dry overnight.
Refill with your favorite e-liquid and enjoy… StormCloud

Here is the simplified method of above for those who are intimidated by instructions.
1. power flush with distilled vinegar and let soak 30-60 min.
2. Blow out cartomizer and place in Soda solution 5-10 min.
3. Power flush with distilled water and let dry

seems like alot but it is quite simple really... I usually buy new carts and addys when mine burn out, I have so many used carts and addys that still work and now contnue to do so after a good cleaning ... plus I don't like waisting money when it's not necessary :). StormCloud

I agree, no reason to waste money when you can just clean up your supplies and have them as good or close to new.

I would equate it to buying cars, but the fact is MANY people would rather buy a new car, than keep the old one running, and maintained.

Does the baking part melt the center battery insulator and/or plastic (Black) covering ?

I dont put my carts in the oven just the atomizer. But no it doesn't melt @225 f. I should have put the F before cause 225 Celsius would be alot hotter. I believe i have even heard of people in here that bake there cartomizers. Without the tips i believe. But no it doesnt hurt them at all. I would air dry them but i guess i am impatient most of the time.

Just take apart the cart (mouthpiece, the inner piece, and shell) and drop all three pieces in alcohol for a few minutes. You can do the same with the cart filler.

Or, if the filler's really shot... you can just buy some polyfill or Fluval, and replace it for under a cent.

And drop the atty in alcohol too. Did you drain the alcohol through it? That's the crucial step...

I've never had an atty die, and none of them taste burnt.

hummm... what alcohol do you use? Grain or iso ? does it remove the burnt crud from around the coil?

Iso, 70%.

No, it doesn't. Because the point is to clean it BEFORE there is any burnt crud on the atty.

I do it every 24-48 hours. And I never vape my atties dry.

The point of this method is to clean off the juice before it ever dries in the first place. Because once it has, it is very hard to get off, and you have to do a lot of invasive and/or dangerous (to the atty) stuff to resolve it. This way, it never gets that bad in the first place.

I drop it in alcohol, go brush my teeth, then when I'm done it's ready for me to drain it. I demonstrate this in my "care and feeding of the 510" video.

I also think quality of juice matters. I got a order from a vendor and it would clog up a atomizer in less then a hour for the dark stuff. The lighter colored juice was better. But i lost some atomizers and cut them open. The coils were encased in some black gunk. Not sure if they just messed up my order or what the deal was but since i have switch vendors my atties don't clog up. But i would agree with mistress on cleaning them everyday or once every two days so that junk doesn't build up on them. Plus it keeps them tasting better.

Ah ... you hit the nail on the head ... you never let your attys get dry (I have... been at work a few times and forgot to bring spare juice or fresh filled carts and ended up sucking the ones I had dry) well... at least it kept me going until I got home :)

I'd rather nic out for a couple hours than suck on a dry atty. Tastes terrible, and hurts the atty. And I am all about saving money. From the looks of your elaborate cleaning method, you are too.

It's a good idea to have a little bottle of emergency juice on you at all times.

To those trying this method: PGA will work, but try isopropyl (rubbing) alchol. It evaporates cleaner.

WAIT!

I was unclear about this from your original instructions. Are you talking about CARTOMIZERS, or CARTS and atomizers?

If you are talking about CARTOMIZERS, please DO NOT use isopropyl alcohol, as you can never be sure it's 100% dry.

Use PGA in cartomizers.
