Compton approves strict ban on smoking | Los Angeles Wave - Community News, Sports & Entertainment | West Edition
The beautiful city of Compton, California just banned "smoking" (including electronic cigarette usage) in "multi-unit residential housing with more than three adjacent units."
Ordinance starting on page 34 -- http://www.comptoncity.org/agenda/2011/10_2011/112510/18450710202011065821528.pdf
The ordinance also bans bans "smoking" in:
1. Dining areas
2. Service areas.
3. Common areas of multi-unit residences.
4. Public parks.
5. Other public places, including streets and sidewalks, when being used for a public event, including but not limited to a farmers market, concert, parade, fair, festival, or any other event open to the general public.
Upon further investigation, at least two other California cities have a similar ban that extends to apartments -- South Pasadena and Union City.
It appears all these cities have taken their language, or at least their definition, from the December 2009 Public Health Law & Policy Technical Assistance Legal Center model ordinance
