The beautiful city of Compton, California just banned "smoking" (including electronic cigarette usage) in "multi-unit residential housing with more than three adjacent units."

The ordinance also bans bans "smoking" in:

1. Dining areas
2. Service areas.
3. Common areas of multi-unit residences.
4. Public parks.
5. Other public places, including streets and sidewalks, when being used for a public event, including but not limited to a farmer’s market, concert, parade, fair, festival, or any other event open to the general public.

Upon further investigation, at least two other California cities have a similar ban that extends to apartments -- South Pasadena and Union City.

It appears all these cities have taken their language, or at least their definition, from the December 2009 Public Health Law & Policy Technical Assistance Legal Center model ordinance

We can't possibly keep up with these local bans. Many we don't know about have undoubtedly passed, and many more are inevitably going to follow.

What I take away from it (aside from a headache) is that the antis are showing us how fundamentally weak they are. They failed at the federal level, failed at the state level, and this is what they're left with: It's pathetic.

At some point (soon, I hope!), it will occur to them that every stinking lie they've told over the past decades is going to come back and bite them hard in their collective, puritanical, paternalistic ....

We're driving them mad(der). Once you start doing that, you realize what a very short trip it is. ;o)

In the meantime, lots of luck to them trying to enforce a ban on vaping.

There are two people to blame for this -- the Public Health Law & Policy Technical Assistance Legal Center and the Compton City Attorney. In the former case, it's because they're disingenuous prohibitionists, and in the latter, it's pure laziness.

I'd wager $10 that the City Council didn't write the bill, and that no one on the City Council ever uttered the words 'electronic cigarettes' during the hearing. Compton's racial makeup is overwhelmingly African American, and both awareness and use are extremely low when compared to whites.

So the dangers of candles, incense, and wood burning appliances are okay, but an electronic cigarette is subject to fines. There is a bit of ambiguity in e cigs with no nicotine or tobacco since I can create a personal vaporizer that doesn't have to be e cigarette like.

thats just play BullShart. un freakin believeable. I live in the city nextdoor to compton and i would never let this just pass..i wonder what i can do to reverse this? im sure i will not affect many comptonians but its the principle. plus others my decide to use them as models and follow.

Compton specifically left in the no medicinal ......... ban. Alameda at least left it out and is looking at e-cigarettes before adding them in.
