I've been using an Ego-C for a while with innokin iclear 16 clearomizer. No complaints at all but today i encountered something strange. Left it in the car for a few hours came back and the thing was dead. At first i thought the battery was low and ran out of power.

So got home, unscrewed the clearo, put the battery on the charger, charged as normal. Put the clearo on a 510 battery and vaped. No problems at all at that point.

Then 510 battery ran out of power, so i switched the clearo to a second 510 battery but no vape at all ! can't hear any "burning" but batteryled does light up. Tried cleaning the contacts but to no avail. So i tried another clearo and that did work on the second 510 battery. So i've narrowed the malfunctioning to that specific clearo i was using.

Meanwhile Ego battery was charged up. I've screwed the "bad" clearo onto the Ego. Pressed the button and the white led lights up but no vape. Tried again and white led did not burn. Unscrewed the "bad" clearo, put the good clearo on the Ego but still no white led lighting up. Tried the 5 clicks and holding the button for 5 seconds etc but still not working

Put the Ego on the charger again for a minute then put on the good clearo and no problems anymore, works like normal !! put the bad clearo on it and it puts the Ego in some kind of coma, need the charger to waken it up again !! Very very strange ...

i've tossed the bad clearo now but somehow the bad clearo does something nasty to my Ego battery ....

Be careful how tight you screw things on. You should do them up until they just make contact. Screwing them right down, especially on ego type batteries, can push the center pin on the ego in. It also squashes the center pin in on the clearo, so you get weird things happening like some clearos not working on the ego, and some clearos not working on anything and so on.

Look at the center pin on the ego battery. It should be slightly proud of the surrounding insulator. If it is not, get a pair of very pointy nose pliers, or the tip of a sharp knife and see if you can work it up a tiny fraction. Don't go overboard.

Same with the faulty clearo. Have a look at the center pin and work it out slightly. It is sitting in a rubber grommet which can get squashed in to the pin is not making contact with anything.

Of course there's other issue that can happen - poor contacts with coil wires and so on.

well the strange thing was that the particular bad clearo seems to put the Ego into some kind of coma. Nothing works except for charging it again for a few seconds. After that it's back alive ....

Thanks for your advice, i'll be more secure with screwing and unscrewing :)

Sounds like the atomizer is shorting and the ego is going into short protection mode (heard this mentioned before), some theorized the charger may reset the short protection circuit on the battery.

I have an iclear16 that does the same thing. I would not suggest you use it any more. Your battery is turning off for a reason. I don't use mine anymore, I pretty much gave up on both of the ones I have for reasons like this. I could get one draw off of the bad one on the ego, I can get 2-3 on the MVP. It stops altogether on the MVP but doesn't turn it off.

Oh, I missed that will all the screwing and unscrewing :)

It could be a short circuit. If you over tighten and there's a bit of extra wire at the center pin, squashing the grommet causes it to stick out further and short on the negative thread connection. It can be hard to diagnose because the device looks fine when it's not screwed onto a battery. You can try to trim the wire, but if it can' be fixed you were correct in thinking that you should not be using it.

Sounds like the atomizer is shorting and the ego is going into short-curcuit protection mode (heard this mentioned before), some theorized the charger may reset the short protection circuit on the battery.

this is what I also think is happening, but, your battery should FLASH 3,5 or 10 times to alert you
of the safety situation going on(depends on brand), so is battery at fault also... ?

did you bother to change the coil in the i16 clearo before tossing... ?

is battery a brand name or no name ?

just be careful playing with the ego battery...

As a long time ego user, this is something that I personally would never use. A DC1.6 I'd only use on a regulated 3.7 ego or preferably, a 3.7 fixed mod with a bigger battery. NEVER on a 510 stick battery.

second Ego battery is ordered ;) i've started with 510 batteries combined with Vision Nano's and after a while i've decided vaping is something for me and i needed something better, so i've upgraded to an Ego-C upgrade with iclear 16 since a few weeks.

i've tossed the bad iclear, i was using 2 at the same time with differents flavors.

The other one works well so i guess it's not the battery that's faulty (original Ego-C 650mah).
Opened up a new iclear 16 and that one does not have any problems too.

Unfortunately i don't have a multimeter ... i guess it was some kind of short circuit.

if you have an iClear16, it has a replaceable coil
(probably/maybe the coil that was shorting)

what I was asking is if you tried a new coil ?

ego style yes, but are they a brand name ? Joyetech-Vision-SmokTech-Kanger
clone or genuine brand name battery ? (genuine batts have Co. logo branded on them)

it sounds like your back on track, good luck be careful :)

i've have an original Joyetech Ego-C upgrade battery.
I've tried to replace the coil and it's probably the culprit ... the clearo works with a new coil.

gotcha, sounds good ;)

safer with brand names, and didn't want you to throw away
a good clearo if it was just a stupid coil...
