Strange threading?

I have a couple of drug store brand e-cigs from my past days of experimenting before I finally took the plunge, and a lot of them have some really.. Idk, odd threading? This one, a Mistic? Yeah, I have a couple KR808-D1's that strangely enough fit it, but not in the way you'd expect. There's this gap, which doesn't seem to effect much, I can still vape, but the gap almost concerns me. My chargers also crapped the bed today so I couldn't even charge my v2, and though my v2.. seems to fit? in the mistic charger, it doesn't say it's charging. All this weird threading has me wondering, do certain brands of e-cigs and APV's etc, have their own CUSTOM MADE parts so you can't simply go out and buy something cheaper to use with it? I'm probably a bit .... about price, but I'm a vaper on a budget, and I like knowing I can simply shop around to find things that work for cheaper and possibly even better. So before I go screaming "shut up and take my money!" and the next good deal that perks my attention, anyone want to fill me in a bit? Much appreciated!:2cool:

It's just a thread pattern, it wouldn't cost anymore money to have one over another. as far as manufacturing goes. Unless you get into some really bizarre threading.

There are a ton of different connection types out there, but AFAIK most all of them are at least an "official" thread pattern, not just some random one-off type deal. Figuring out which pattern that is can be difficult though. Stuff like the ecab and eroll are obviously different, one-off devices but that's in the minority as far as I've seen.

Most of the cigalikes I've picked up for fun at the store have been either 510s, 808s, 4081s, and m40x series. Haven't seen an m40x in awhile though, and they are easy to spot and they're skinny compared to most other cigalikes.

It's very possible the connection is the same type, it's just that quality control on one (or both) of the pieces you are screwing together is so off they don't fit properly.

Mistic uses KR808D-2 threading, I think it's also called E-9. As long as you don't over-tighten when mixing D-2 and D-1 you should be okay. But it's really easy to kill a cartomizer or an auto battery this way.

Even stranger, from everything I've heard the Mistic seems to use 901 cartomizers.

There are adapters out there, and even the occasional website which actually sells generic D-2 accessories.
