I have been vaping for about three months now (70 days without an analog) and have recently started noticing a strange aftertaste when I am vaping. The best way to explain it is somewhat of a vegetable oil or olive oil taste with a hint of plastic. I am not sure if it's my taste buds, my set up, or my liquids. Has anyone else experienced this?

It's not a burt taste; not even a bad taste.....more of an odd taste that I could deal without. I do not experience this all the time; it seems to come and go. I do drink lots of water to stay hydrated. It does happen on almost all liquids that I try regardless of the PG/VG ratio.

Most of the time I use a ProVape-1 with a Vision Mini ViVi Nova tank @ 2.4 to 2.8 ohms.

Any advice?

Could be a number of factors playing here:

You could be experiencing what's called "vapor's tongue". Our taste buds have been damaged from years of smoking, and until they heal you can have many variations in how you can interpret flavors. Even after the taste buds begin to heal, vapor's tongue can return for a day or two.

Vaping the same flavor repeatedly (all day vape) can over-saturate your taste buds to the point where you can't taste anything right. Best to mix things up as far as flavors go.

Some people can taste hints of plastic in their juice delivery devices. This can happen with other liquids, too. There's a good reason that finer restuarant only serve their beverages in glassware, and not plastic cups. Same with beer; some people can taste the metal in canned beer and will only drink bottled beer.

Pyrex (glass) is an inert material, which means it will not impart a flavor of its own to a liquid. So pyrex cartotanks are not only popular for this reason, but they are safe to use with certain volatile flavors that can crack or melt plastic tanks or clearomizers http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...6-something-safe-cinnamon-citrus-flavors.html

If your e-liquids are relatively new, they may need some "steeping" time. This may only mean they need to age or sit for a week or two for the ingredients to meld together. If they have an alcohol base, leaving the cap off for a couple of days will allow the alcohol to evaporate. A perfumey or artifical taste can either mean a poor mix, bad juice, or need for more steeping.

I don't think it's vapors tongue as I can taste the flavor. The taste I am getting is more of an aftertaste. Is that common with vapors tongue?

I do have the problem of getting attached to a flavor and vaping it all day....even days at a time. I will defiantly try switching up my flavors more.

I am not sure if my tank is pyrex or plastic. I will read up on the forum link you provided. Maybe I need to change to a different tank system.

I have been steeping them, but I have a feeling I am not steeping them long enough. I will usually let them sit un-capped for two to three days mixing them once a day.

I do soak them in alcohol, rinse them and air dry them every time I change out the head but maybe I need to do more frequent cleanings.

Thank you both for the great advice!

Vivi Novas tanks are plastic. If you want a glass tank without hassles try a Kanger Protank or a pyrex glass carto tank. You say you vape fruit flavors - any acidic flavors such as orange, pineapple, cinnamon,... will crack or degrade plastic materials (There's a list of flavors that crack or degrade plastic tanks, plastic clearos, etc., in this forum).

If you vape other non-acidic flavors, I would suggest trying the Kanger Evods. I've tried vivi novas, carto tanks, and other delivery systems and I swear by the Evods. Just fill and vape, good flavor, consistent performance, and their cost don't break the bank.

Yeah, it happens to me also. Artificial flavors will dull your taste buds, it will happen a lot faster if it is subjected to the same one over a period of time. The best way I have been able to combat this is usually to switch between a fruity and non fruity ejuice throughout the day.

i was gonna say the same thing. i love citrus juices, but about 3/4 of the way thru a plastic (non polypro) tank i start to notice an off, unappealing flavor. it is the cheap plastic the cart tank is made with, i can put the same juice into a pyrex or polypro and not notice the flavor change. hope all these great replies help :)
