I know what you mean about the memories JB and I am rather fortunate to have several in the area. Even before this contest there were plans to do some of them this year but may try to add another. Will have to see how it goes...I don't like riding them when they are really crowded but since they are local I can check that out and come home without riding and only waste an hour. One was involved in a bad accident last year

WV MetroNews – 1 dead, dozens injured as truck slams into train

There are warning lights but the crossing is in a curve right after a straight stretch which are rare in WV especially the mountains and as soon as you cross the tracks you start up another steep section and with a full load, you need all the help you can get.

Yeah... have several friends from OR...plus lived in Southeast AK for 20 yrs and that is the temperate rainforest climate too. Rained a lot but no thunderstorms. May hear a clap of thunder once every 5 yrs or so and with the mountains it would just rumble and roll forever. Most locals didn't know what it was and would call the police station and they would finally have the radio stations announce that it was thunder and to stop calling :)

I loved it too but from Southeast and didn't want to live in Anchorage, not to mention my mom is 80, pops is 99 and MIL is 89 and all here on the East Coast... thought it best to come back here. Can keep eye on them and also be close to good medical care. Even in Juneau, if anything really serious, they flew you to either Seattle or Anchorage. I am in Elkins, which is a really small town but has a great hospital system, most of the upper part of WV is connected with WVU Medical Center. We have a heart center, cancer center, dialysis, even the Dr pops needs to give him the eye shots for his macular degeneration. I live out of town on a mountaintop and as long as I can get off the hill, I can be at the hospital is about 10-15 min depending on traffic. Not sure but think Elkins has a population of only about 15,000
