I've had my Triton gear for about a month, and I'm getting to the point where running the coils under warm water isn't cleaning as well as I need it. I've heard of dipping them in almost-boiling water, and I've also heard of soaking them in a variety of things (vodka, vinegar, etc.). Can anyone give me a good rundown? I got a hot fleck of scooby-snack in my mouth today, and it was pretty, uhhh, surprising.

(P.S. Grain alcohol is illegal here in MA)

this is what i do...

go to store buy cheap small bottle of vodka.
go home.
rinse entire tank disassembled under warm water.
place in bowl or cup. (i use a mason jar with lid)
cover with vodka.
soak over night.
in the morning use spoon and scoop out rinse under warm water.
pat dry with rag and air dry.

i was scared to do it. but it really works for me.

i save the jar of vodka. havn't changed it out yet. figure i'll wait till it looks funny.
i just put the lid on and labeled it alcohol cleaner.

Just get rid of the garbage tanks and go with like a tumbler or protank or something seriously. The adapter only cost like 2 bucks. After switching from overpriced halo tanks that never work right anyways, to like a protank or the tumbler (doesnt even need an adapter fits right on triton) vaping will be satisfying again and youll realize how bad the dang halo tanks really are.

Sorry halo im a big fan but your tanks (and replacement heads) suck its no secret. Still love you though.

The T2 Triton Tanks out perform any BCC, and they don't leak.

After a month, it's time to change the coil assembly is you've used them constantly. They are not rebuildable, and only last so long. A month is a good amount of time.

Spoken from experience not opinion because if you actually tried it, there is no way youd say that. But go ahead keep playing with the T2s, just advice is all it was.

I dont mean to sound rude btw though because i know we all like different things, it was just night and day difference for me and also it kind of irritates me that Halo heads are 2 bucks per but the same exact kanger heads (probably even better quality) are only a dollar per. So it is in fact overpriced, wether or not its garbage can be debatable i guess.

You can buy the heads wherever you prefer to get them from; you have a choice ;) (they all fit). You might prefer the short wicks to Halo's long wick heads, but it's a debatable issue, and both are available elsewhere.

The only other tanks I've tried are the T3, and T4 (mini tank), and that T3 is going to sit on a shelf, forever, unless I PIF it to the next person who wants to try one. If that BCC is any indication of what to expect, I'm staying away from all BCCs. That T3 is even worse than I expected, with noisy air inlets, and gurgling.

I did pickup SI's nano tank, another BCC (which, btw, fits right through the cone), but I hesitate to try it.

But back on topic... That Southern Classic is dirtying up my wicks, and I've been neglecting the maintenance. There's no visual hint that the wicks are dirty, until I take it apart, and then it's pretty gummed up, through and through, something that hot water alone isn't cleaning correctly. I'll have to try PGA or vodka.

I'm vaping on a new coil now, and the taste is back! Sweet Southern Classic... yum!

I've got 3 Protanks collecting dust in the cabinet to say otherwise.

After the T2s, the iClears are great. Give them a try.

Your response leads me to believe either your getting halo T2s from somewhere else and they actually work worth a damn or your just lying because why would you have 3 pro tanks collecting dust...wouldn't you just not buy more after you didn't like the first one. Anyways the point I'm getting across is that halo tanks are just problems for me, I've given them a fair shot for 3 months but its a no go.

OP - Before I start and after I am finished with the clean job I thoroughly wash my hands and clean my work area with strong house cleaner tile/floor/counter stuff. I like to pretend I'm entering an Operating Room given the stuff I clean and kids and pets are not permitted in my space. I hold the wick under hot water and "press" the wick with my pudgy little fingers to squeeze out juice before I start the real clean job. Jef's point is spot on. If the following procedure still wont clean my wick properly or the wick is falling apart then I toss it since the head has a useful life as Jef noted. I clean at least 10 tanks per week because not only am I nut case but I mix DIY.

:)

I use Walgreens denture cleaner which is not only cheap, easy to work with, but more importantly gentle and if the procedure is properly followed leaves zero I repeat zero taste or smell.

- Hot water wash everything. Thoroughly. Inside and out. You better have a screen over the drain or it's byby.
- Dissolve the denture cleaner tablet in a plastic thingy filled with hot water
- Let it sit for about 30 min
- ALL my stuff gets cleaned this way: tanks, glass for mixing, syringes, wicks, you name it and it all sits in my love juice for about 30 minutes
- Then thoroughly wash in cold water. Inside and out. Thoroughly
- Let it dry overnight since I have multiple extras of everything I don't need to use any of the stuff I'm cleaning.

I've tested the alcohol but why bother given the cost and harshness. The flavor wicks (2) in the ProTank 2 are placed in a blue bat case for drying so I can see them and are very delicate. I don't support dry burning the coil because I'm lazy and think it might weaken or degrade the wick which the coil is wrapped around. I respect those that do this but I just toss it if the above procedure wont clean it properly. Just my way and not the only way on this coil issue. Please remember I'm using my love juice potent denture cleaner with syringes which have contained pure nic which at a certain level will kill you or at least make you very sick so I'm confident that even though its called a denture cleaner with the hot water sauna it performs great. Cross contamination is a serious issue and must be avoided at all costs.

Thanks for the thought. I'll be trying this soon. I'm just trying to put off keeping vodka in the house until absolut-ly necessary. :)

Thanks for saving the thread and offering some advice. This sounds like a good way to do big jobs. I didn't want to have to buy a pint of vodka to get all my tanks, coils, droppers, etc. done at once. I'll be giving this a shot shortly; I need to get my fanny in gear and get to a store.

I actually have 6 or 7 coils in a rotation. I clean them every time I finish a tank/tank-and-a-top-off. I thought a month doing this was a bit short, but on the other hand, I've been cleaning the wicks kind of roughly, and some of them are starting to fray a bit.

E-cigs have really brought out the cheap-skate in me. I've gotten rid of shirts because I can't sew a button back on, but I've gone to the store to get a bulb-dropper to save a mL of liquid that I really like (Halo Cafe Mocha, babe). I'm such a jackass.

Thanks for looking out. That wasn't used for pure nicotine or anything even close. It was separated for cleaning and drying. Everything's pretty much dry now, and it all looks nice. The next few days will be judgement days as I will find out if I actually need to toss any of them. This was really helpful, so whatever happens, by next week I'll write a conclusion on here for anyone who might find this later.

I've had no problems with my 6 Triton tanks, that good maintenance and cleaning didn't fix.

Same, couldn't be happier with the way everything's performed.

(I clean in vodka every 2 days or so. So far, no problems with liquid gumming up the works; I'm more concerned about keeping the mouthpieces clean, but might as well clean the whole thing while I'm at it.)

wow... you guys are intense.

I toss the head, rinse it in water, run a paper towel through the mouthpiece, let it dry and that is it. I just replace the head when I think it needs a cleaning. at 2 bucks or so a pop ever 3 or so weeks it's still cheaper than smoking. I have 6 tanks and 4 main flavors so I just rotate the 2 spares in as needed while the other ones dry.

I haven't tried it yet but some people also recommend dry burning the Triton tank/coil:

I have the Triton tanks and Kanger T2s which are nearly identical. Here are the steps I take.

1. Disassemble...including removing the white-ish plastic sleeve from the coil/head piece.
2. Flush it all with very hot tap water.
3. Set the tube. mouthpiece and plastic sleeve aside to dry.
4. Place just the head with the wicks in everclear or vodka for 1 hour or more (or even overnight)...then flush again with hot water.
5. After the wicks dry, I remove the loose flavor wick and the small silver piece on the top of the head...screw the head back onto the tube.
6. Then, I put it on a battery, and using short bursts, burn off the gunk on the coil until it stops smoking and I see a good orange glow across the coil.
7. Then I remove the head and rinse it again to get rid of the burnt smell...set aside to dry.
8. Once it's all dry...re-assemble.

I did pop (burn out) one coil with this process...but it usually works out fine. Yeah, I know, lots of steps, but I have several T2s and I can rotate them and let them dry.

I've used a lot of tanks, clearos, etc. (protank, mini vivi novas, ego-cc's, triton tanks, G6 mini tanks, Iclear 16's) since I started vaping, my triton tanks are still in my daily rotation. When clean, I do enjoy the flavor they provide. My method cleaning is similar to most described.
1. Soak them in hot water (drawn through my coffee maker)
2. Unscrew coil, dry wicks with paper towel (soaking out water and any more e-liquid)
3. Run them through hot water again and dry wicks with paper towel once more
4. If I have been using a rather strong flavor I tend to go with the overnight vodka soak, then let air dry for awhile

Hey guys,

Sorry but I need to resurrect this thread. All the cleaning methods sound great and over the next few weeks I’ll be trying each one to see which one works best for me. I’ll start with the denture cleaner cos this makes sense to really get into the little nooks and crannies for a good cleaning.

I would normally do my cart/mini tank cleaning on Saturday mornings but obviously this might have changed being a new Triton user and all (is once a week too long to wait?). I realize some of you guys touched a bit on how often you clean (e.g. every couple days) but I’d be curious to know exactly how often and what juices (Halo juices) you are using in your tanks so I can use the info as a template.

I’m currently using Tribeca, Southern Classic, and Voodoo in my tanks. I will however be adding Malibu and Tiki into the mix shortly as some new tanks come in and start my tank rotation. I realize juice viscosity will have an impact on longevity so with that in mind; can I still remain on a Saturday morning cleaning rotation even if I’m using a thick juice?
