I change my terminology based on who I'm talking to. If a complete stranger asks me and I don't feel like getting into a long conversation, I call it an electronic cigarette. I've found that over the last 6 months to a year, more people are familiar with the fact that electronic cigarettes exist and know them by that name. Most people nowadays proceed to tell me about the disposable that their uncle/brother/friend/grandmother bought at the convenience store.

If I'm talking with a friend or someone who I'm willing to have an extended conversation with, I call it a personal vaporizer. I try to stay away from the term vaporizer for shorter conversations because, in most people's minds, a vaporizer still seems to be a device to ingest illegal drugs.

Seems to me folks are a little smarter and better informed these days (even the hillbillys around here). They generally ask is that one of those and I say "why yes it is". I use a lot of PVs, GLVs (big and small), provaris (big and small), silver bullet, and a slew of ego twists one of which is 7" long. I get the "hey thats a different one of those ya got there", to which I reply "why yes it is". Anyway for the uninformed it's an e-cig and I give em as much info as their moonshine addled brains can hack. For vapers and novices it's a PV dude chill out!

just don't call it a "toot machine"! lol

i hate that word toot. it sounds like the apv enthusiasts are a bunch of 7th graders. lol

i think we are stuck with the word e-cig. its what most people know it as. ..well, the other day, someone asked me if i was using a fake cigarette, and it took me awhile to figure out what they were talking about. lol ...she told me to keep using it, because she wants me to quit smoking, even though she has no clue what it is. lol ..( her daughter is in the hospital and i've been jumping back and forth between real cigs and the apv, because of stress and worry. i didnt have the apv at the time, so didnt show it to her. )

i dont know what i would say if someone asks me what it was, while i was out vaping. i'll just tell them "this is helping me quit smoking. "

i sure wont say its my toot machine! lol

OK Meant to reply with quote to "yzer" post but something i did wrong obviously cuz i just copied and pasted his whole post. sorry !!!!! Loved the post though.
It cracks me up.

Analog: a cigarette. We can hurt cigarettes and show our disdain for them by calling them "analogs." Not that a heated coil is a digital device... Oh, well.

Cone: a muffler and heat sink for a well-functioning carto. A cone is a cosmetic thing, like big fenders on a 1960 Cadillac. Yeah, sure.

Juice: E-liquid. Even if it's made in somebody's garage, kitchen or old .... lab, juice just sounds a lot healthier than E-liquid.

Throat hit (TH): Something somebody bigger, stronger and hairier than you likes more than you do.

AW batteries: Something God made to power APVs. You can't find or afford them.

Variable Voltage (VV): If you can't understand how the resistance of a atomizer device relates to available amperage from a battery, them VV is for you. Coming soon to an E-Cig vendor near you: VV/VR (variable voltage, variable resistance APVs). Wait for it.

Highest possible voltage APVs: These will vape anything from nicotine to your grandmother's cremated remains. Enjoy.

Love the last point...... LMBO !!!!!
