Hey everyone. I live in the UK and have been trying disposable e-cigs. I want to get a more permanent option but am getting lost with all the numbers and letters like mah and omh. I just want a starter e-cig like this one 510 Carto Kit £21.99 - Basic Vaping Kits - 510 Carto Kit Electronic Cigarettes | Vaping Devices | Accessories | E-Liquid. But people are saying something about using low resistance attys can damage the battery. If someone could shed some light on the matter it would be much appreciated!

Yes the mini "cigarette size" batteries are limited in power. Running low resistance cartos requires a stronger bigger battery. Most people starting out with an ecig feel like they have to buy an ecig that is the same size as a regular cigarette. Most of those people usually just end up upgrading because those smaller batteries just do not cut it. you can get a ecig model that is the size of a sharpie but has a much much longer battery life can provides more voltage. More voltage with less resistance gives you more wattage. More wattage is important if you want a warmer and thicker vape or if you want more throat hit.

If you calculate voltage x voltage or voltage squared then divide by the ohm you get wattage. Wattage is the value you are really after because you can compare that value to other voltage/ohm options. I would guess 8 watts more or less is a good average for most people.

For example of some minis. If you have a battery that produces 3.3 volts with a 2.8 ohm carto. That is only 3.9 watts. That is a very cool vape. It would never come close to satisfy me. For some people it would.

Edit: Mah to simplify it just means the higher number the longer the battery will last. This is a rating of the battery and how much charge it can hold. Mini size batteries or a little over 100 to almost 300 mah. The sharpie size battery can be in the range of 600 to about 1100 mah which is a much longer battery life. Get a 510 type battery which will give you the best compatibility. My suggestions would be a Kgo which is normally about 3.8volts at 1100 mah or an ego twist. An ego twist is a variable voltage which you can change the voltage from 3.2 to 4.8 volts. Having variable voltage gives you a wider range of choices to which ohm carto ypu can use. For example if you are using a 2.0 ohm carto you may want to use 3.8 or maybe 4.0 volts. If using a 3.0 ohm carto may want to bump up to 4.8 volts to give you around the same wattage you like. Burning too warm then turn it down. Burning too cool then turn voltage up a little.

I just got 2 twists a few days ago, and I agree with Chris. These are great batteries. Fine for the beginner, because you don't HAVE to adjust them, but will give you a little versatility when you're ready to try something different.
I would get the 650mah if I was starting tho, the 1000MaH are rather long to start out with.

I would also suggest at least one plain atomizer and cartridge, because you can try a new juice, and rinse it out if you don't like it. Then you won't waste a whole carto on something you don't like. ( buy several of the smallest size e-juices if you aren't sure what you'd like, and get more when you're sure you'll like a flavor).

The new Ego Twist is a real game changer now. Affordable and great product. I was referring newbs always to the KGO until the Ego Twist came out. I say go with that for great throat hit, versatility and an all day battery life. Get a starter kit with two of them so you have one while the other is charging.

I second this. Ego twists are a great way to step up. If you're super serious about vaping and can wait or moneys not an issue jump right in to a provari. You won't regret it.

I think I'm going to continue to recommend the KGO over the Ego Twist because I've been vaping my Twists since yesterday and I honestly don't understand the appeal of variable voltage. Maybe that's because I tend to like vaping at ~4.0 for all of my juices and a KGO with a LR carto is a perfect fit for me.

I think that variable voltage ecigs are overrated and certainly not better than the KGO if you tend to vape at a constant voltage anyway. As always, my two cents.

If you're going with a plain ego then I would get a kgo instead. I think they're just a better batery. For vv the twist is good. I use both kgo and twist.

I agree with this. Also the charger is compatible with both. You need to get two batteries. One for backup or to use while the other is charging.

Kgo is better than the standard ego batteries. The Kgo does about 3.8 volts under load. The ego i think is around 3.3 volts. If you go with the kgo get some LR (low resistance) single coil cartomizers.

Realize if you buy the Twist you also have to buy a charger, extra battery and Cartomizers which ends up being quite expensive.
The VE Riva 1100 Deluxe Kit £34.95 - Deluxe Vaping Kits - Riva 1100 Kit Electronic Cigarettes | Vaping Devices | Accessories | E-Liquid. is a GREAT starter kit and is identical to the Kgo.
Your Vape Escape Riva 1100 Kit contains the following items:

2 x 1100mah Batteries (3 Clicks on/off)
1 x Vision Ego Standard Resistance Clearomisers
5 x Standard Resistance Cartomisers
1 x Cover Cone
1 x USB Charger
1 x 510 Drip Tip (For use with the cartomisers)
1 x Vape Escape Carry Case
I really like the fact it comes with a Clearomizer and Cartomizers. The vendor asked Vapers what would be their fave starter kit and put this together based on customers feedback.
