Recently, I have gotten 2 RSSTs and an AGA T+. These each came from 3 separate vendors and on each one they had one or more screws completely stuck. I pried on them for days and then tried liquid wrench on all of them. Any advice? I've sent two of them back to the vendor and in the process of sending the third back. I would love to not have to worry about bothering sending one back. I just can't believe this is something only I have been experiencing.

Which screws? I had two RSSTs from two different vendors. On one of them the ground screw was a bit tight but I just held the whole atty in my hand & use a normal size screwdriver with a bit of downwards pressure on the screw while turning, came right out.

You are turning the correct way right, sorry could resist. :p

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you were, JFWY. ;)

I don't have a AGA-T but on the RSST everything is SS except for the center post washer. Since they are new there's no way they could have corroded already. I'm not sure what grade SS it is but it would take a long time to corrode. They're either just really tight, or by some chance they were stripped when assembled, or the threads were out of spec cause them to gall/sieze. Not very likely to be the second.

Has anyone ever tried to use a drill to remove screws? Is this something I could try? Not super skilled in handyman skills, but this is ridiculous. Anyway, I have access to a friend's drill, but I don't want to strip the screws.

I used almost every person's advice. I did put the thing in a vice, so I could just put all my strength into trying to get the screw out. This is f-ing ridiculous. I'm not this much of a wimp. I don't know if I could hit it with a chisel on account that it is so small.

Sorry, off topic. Just wanted to say it's been ages since I've seen a snoopy tool. lol

You will most likely destroy the threads in the top cap unless you're very careful. You might try heating it up just a wee bit with a torch.

I was wondering if anyone would recognize it, lol. How about this-

OP- I don't know that the screws would be salvageable after. Have you tried Rapping with a hammer/screwdriver? A few firm blows while in the vice.

Too bad you weren't close by, I could do it for you.

If you want to try drilling it use a left hand drill bit or a screw extractor. The good ones will come with left drill bits. Being SS it's best to use cobalt bits. This requires some level of precision though. If you have never done it before I highly recommend practicing on something else first. With that small of a screw it would be very easy to fubar it. Last resort, send it to me & I'll do it for the cost of shipping only. I have a whole arsenal of tools at my disposal & I know how to use them.
