Here is a wonderful article I saw in a paper in Indonesia today... they're trying to fight ecig cause of course they can't tax it...

Some moments of this article even made me laugh....

Opinion of those who had been declared an electric cigarette healthier than regular cigarettes proved wrong. Head of Drug and Food Control Agency of RI Kustantinah explains, electric cigarettes as dangerous as regular cigarettes burned.

The content of propylene glycol, Dieter glycol and glycerin as solvent proved nicotine can cause cancer.(lol PG is a dangerous solvent.... what they don't say is that is the product they use the most to enhance the taste of their food here....)

'Perhaps people think cigarettes contain nicotine electric only, and if cigarettes are other ingredients,' said Chief BPOM Kustantinah RI in Jakarta,
Kustantinah have explained in an electric cigarette nicotine liquid with a solvent propylene glycol, glycerin or glycol Dieter. If nicotine and a solvent is heated it will produce nitrosamines. "This nitrosamine compounds that cause cancer."

Kustantinah added, all electric cigarettes that circulate in Indonesia is illegal and dangerous to health. Around the world, he also revealed that no single country that approved the electric cigarette. Even in some countries such as Australia, Brazil and China electric cigarette is prohibited.

"Though China is finding an electric cigarette in 2003. However, China's government has banned its circulation," he explains.

For that BPOM with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Industry and Trade Ministry will examine more deeply about the electric cigarette. "Electronic Cigarette will never registered, approved and will be banned in Indonesia," he said.

Food and Drugs Supervisory Agency (BPOM) not get a clear clarification on the content and the content of electronic security products or Electronic cigarettes Nicotine Delivery System (ENDS), which is now circulating illegally in the community, but BPOM rate this product as dangerous to the native tobacco products general.

"Until now both BPOM and the Ministry of Health has not been able to control the circulation of these products. To conduct supervision ideally there are two things that must be considered, namely the contents contained in the products and manufacturers who make and be responsible for its content, this product does not have the requirements, "said Director of Drugs Control Agency for Food and Drug Administration (BPOM), Danardi Sosrosumihardjo, in the building Kemenkes Jakarta, Friday (6 / 8).

According to him, until now no one any country ratifying this product as official goods, including in Indonesia, where illegal circulation of people and offer per-person. So that wherever there is no guarantee the product is safe to use, because there is no official distributors. (So what they mean is ... the product is not gonna be dangerous anymore if they can distribute it officially... meaning taxing it.... stupid people....)

In addition, he said, has not been studied exactly, but he considered the dangers of the product is the same with cigarettes. Although there is the label that writes the word "Healthy". "People should not be fooled healthy words on the label, because cigarette smoking is as dangerous to the original," he said.

In some countries such as China, Singapore, Thailand, Uruguay, Australia and Brazil has already ban on the sale of electric cigarette product, while in Indonesia this product have circulated in some areas such as Semarang, Palembang, Surabaya, Lampung and Makassar.

Electronic Cigarettes are also known as E-Cigarett. This product is marketed under various names such as electric cigarette, ecigaro, electro smoke, green and smartsmoker CIG. The product is also claimed as an alternative for someone who wants to quit smoking, while not harming others (passive smoking) but remains as dangerous with cigarette usual.

I also found another article a while ago... in which they were saying that Allah said that ecigarette is bad because it's not the fruit of earth... Enjoy Indonesia full of crapness.....

Can you ask Chief BPOM Kustantinah exactly what quantity of nitrosamines he measured in the vapor when he heated the electronic cigarette liquid to the operating temperature of the electronic cigarette? Ask him also to explain how it is possible that several independent laboratories have found no carcinogenic nitrosamines in the vapor.

"Findings. Ruyan® e-cigarette is designed to be a safe alternative to smoking. The various test results confirm this is the case. It is very safe relative to cigarettes, and also safe in absolute terms on all measurements we have applied....1. 38 millilitre puff. After correcting for dilution, the most common cigarette smoke toxicants were found to be either completely absent, or present in amounts less than 1 part per million."

"In summary, of the four TSNAs evaluated by ANALYZE, only NAT was detected at low levels in the aerosol samples from the njoy electronic cigarettes. NAT was tested by Hoffman et al. (1984) and was shown to be non-toxic and noncarcinogenic in rats receiving a combined subcutaneous dose of up to 9 mmol/kg. Based on the above, there is no evidence that carcinogenic TSNAs are present in the aerosol from NJOY electronic cigarettes."

Just out of curiosity, what is the degree held by this person, in what field, and where was it awarded?

It's illegal in China... funny, was just there over the weekend and it wasn't illegal, maybe they just changed the laws for me while I was there.

PVs are also 100% legal in South Korea, from what I've been able to tell we're the first to make them completely legal and TAX the hell out of them. South Korea labeled them a "mild cigarette" and placed on them all the same taxes (and I believe a few extra, juice is 300-400% what it is online) and restrictions. A step in the right direction IMO, now to get them to see them as less harmful and lower the taxes (working on the petition now).

Well that's the point, Indonesia controls their population by scaring them with god and laws, they have really no idea what they're talking about, of course it's not banned in China.... but Indonesian people don't know that... I had a supplier in Indonesia, who sold the Health Cigarettes, he told me he stopped because he was scared to go in prison, and that you couldn't order it anymore... when i got my packages from CHina, he couldn't believe it, and he said they might catch me lol....

Hey nice to hear from some other indonesian expats too ! Never been to Bandung yet though... but will soon :)

cheers!

This sort of article worries me. Not because of not being able to smoke e-cig but because it's misleading to the people.

By the time the article was published i had a phone call by a relative telling me that he's worried of what might happen if i keep vaping and i needed to explain him what i have read and understood based on infos i gathered here on the forum and elsewhere. Information mainly spreads mouth to mouth in Indonesia since it's not so easy to do research on this issue over the internet as internet connection is not so good and can be a tad pricey for many.

Well, as for supply i no longer depend on local suppliers cos their products mostly crap, that Health brand is nothing more than a poorly made product and i must say sold for unreasonable price. Same thing with the liquids, i don't know where those guys get their liquid supply but i can tell that the nicotine level and mixing composition are never been informed accurately while being sold on a pretty steep price for local market since e-cigs are labelled as "magical cure to smoking addiction", an exaggaration and making people think that it's normal to pay such price to cure the addiction (which usually fail due to short lifespan of the low quality device and the taste of poorly made liquids which never really able to stand againts the taste of real kretek).

For me, getting supplies from China supplier like Eastmall or Heaven Gifts and liquids from US are more logical.

I guess if FDA issue approval on e-cig and liquids many countries like Indonesia will follow, and i really hope they will.
