Stupid question about fog machines, vaping and politics

The big Star Spangled Banner celebration was broadcast live on TV this past weekend. As with most concerts, I watched the bands, audience and politicians on stage as they were enveloped in a constant vapor fog coming from the fog machines for about 3 to 4 hours. Similar in content to vaping liquids or ejuices, I thought those machines use glycerin and glycol fluid to produce the very same vapor people around the country are trying to outright ban?

This is how I explained the safety of vaping to my smoker friend who actually said "I heard it's bad for you". First I was like dude, you think it could possibly be more harmful than cigarettes? They have Knott's Scary farm every year, the place is one giant fog machine. Crowded with tweens, children and parents not to mention employees. In California we can't even use unicorn rainbow farts in public because it might be harmful to the environment or the baby children. Yet massive amounts of fog machine vapor is cool. I'm pretty sure e-cigarette vapor is pretty safe.
