Hello,
So I have been vaping for about a year or so now. I recently moved to sub-ohm vaping as I was looking for a harder "thump" in my throat. I started with the Eleaf tank and 30W iStick, but found it hard to buy replacement coils in my area. A few weeks ago I bought a KangerTech. I was vaping both tanks around 13w and didn't find a significant difference from non-sub-ohm as far as the hit. Over the past couple weeks I started vaping around 20w, the iStick is rated at 30w and the .5ohm coil is rated 15-60w.

I use a brand called Dr. Fog, I am not sure the VG ratings but the bottle says it is "Max VG" and has 6mg nicotine. I stick with this brand and flavor as I have tried a bunch and am normally disappointed and end up not using the juice (waste of money).

The 3 problems that I am having (and to an extend had all the while) is.
1. After I fill the tank with ejuice I can only taste the flavor for a couple of hits and them the flavor is gone until I refill again.
2. At higher watts 18 and above I get a burnt taste at a faster rate then at lower
3. At lower watts I don't get that "hit" that I am looking for and that results in me vaping much more trying to get that satisfaction.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Have you tried your usual settings with higher nic? Typically, the nicotine is what gives you that "thump" in the throat. Maybe try a 12mg (possibly even 18mg), and dilute it down with your 6mg if it's too strong.

Also, I've never used Dr. Fog, but if they offer it, you might want to try a juice with a higher mix of PG. VG is a lot smoother on the inhale than PG.

Hi and welcome to the board. Try a different tank first off. If you're using it only at home, a dripper is also an option. The Kanger Subtank is well thought of in general and has a variety of coils plus an RBA deck to wind your own. Max VG usually means 80% or more VG. While VG makes good cloud, the problem for you is PG (the other main component, aside from flavors and nicotine) is what caries the flavor and the throat hit. See if your Dr. Fog people make a lower VG ratio juice in your flavor. If not, you could add, say, 10% PG by volume to strengthen the flavor characteristic and throat hit (this will dilute nicotine and flavor to some extent, made up for a bit by PG being a flavor carrier). Increasing the nicotine level will also increase throat hit, but will affect the flavor, usually poorly as nic doesn't taste all that good. Finally, you could try adding 3 or 4 drops of Everclear or twice that amount of 100 proof vodka (unflavored) to a 15ml bottle of juice. Don't go too heavy on it, but that will kick the TH without messing with the flavor much so long as you don't get excessive.

I tried a higher nic once (I think it was a 12mg) I didn't dilute it and as I vape all day long, I felt a little off by the end of the day. I will try to dilute it and see how that goes. I was told (not sure if true at all) that higher PG was worse (health wise) then VG. It might have just been the guy trying to sell me his mix of juice. Have you heard anything like that?

Any idea why I lose the flavor after a couple hits? I will use the full tank or half the tank and refill and then the flavor is back, but only for a bit. It doesn't taste burnt, just bland.

I will give that a try, where would I get PG? Is there only 1 type to buy? Also if you buy ejuice, what brand do you recommend?

AFAIK, there is no health issue on PG vs. VG. I doubt there can be as people haven't been vaping long enough to develop the required data on long term effects. I DIY my juice and have made it from 50/50 to 10/90, and I usually stay in the 40/60 to 30/70 range now. As for the flavor, perhaps you have vaper't tongue. Drink a lot of water, brush your teeth, anything to invigorate your taste buds. And down-mixing the juice is worth a try. Get some 12 and some 6 and mix by volume to make 8 or 10.

You can buy it anywhere. But get food or pharmaceutical grade. I make my own juice, so I buy my PG and VG, usually, whenever I order flavors as this saves on shipping.

Great! Thank you, I will give the mix a try first and see what happens. Is it a big process and expensive to make your own juice?
There is a learning curve, of course, but it is not hard to do. Accurate measurements are a must and there will be some trial and error. When I start making a new flavor, I make small batches, 10 or 15 ml, so I can vape it up quickly if it's not working. You'll need some PG and VG, and some nic, and some flavors-- if you want them, some people vape unflavored. There are calculators online. Syringes work for measuring in small quantities. Clean used bottles from store-bought juice will work to hold what you make. Then, when you get a recipe you like, with the proper VG/PG balance and nicotine, you can buy enough stuff to make a couple of liters for under 50 bucks, probably more like 40. I have 3 main flavors I vape, and my wife likes those and 3 more that are her favorites, plus another dozen or more successful recipes that I make occasionally. For her, I usually make 250ml batches and for myself 500 ml. (It gets better with age, so laying it down early is a plus, and it's easier to do in larger quantities, but it does require investing in some lab glass to make the necessary measurements in such large quantities.) It's much cheaper in the long run. I vape subohm all day and never think about the juice I am burning unless I am cloud blowing on my Snow Wolf as this sometimes makes me cough at night. My juice cost is about 5 cents per ml. Just at the moment I need to order PG, VG and flavors for my next batches, but I have approximately 5 lifetime's supply of nic laid down in the freezer just in case the FDA decides to get frisky.

So, there are some people who have an allergic reaction to PG, although I'd think you'd have already found out if you were one (typically max VG still has some PG, unless it's specifically labeled as 100% VG). Other than that, I don't know of any documented adverse health effects of PG.

If it helps to alleviate any of your concerns, PG is also widely used as the carrying agent in asthma inhalers. As suprtrkr pointed out, we haven't been vaping long enough to know of any effects of inhaling vaporized PG, but we do know that it's relatively harmless when inhaled as an aerosol spray.

Sweet that's good to know. I have been doing some reading online on PG and they do say that it depends on the state the PG is in. if they use PG in asthma inhalers then as you say vaping it cant be that bad.

Thanks for all your help!! I wasn't sure where I should go to ask my questions but this site is great. I am glade I found it and am a member now!
