Sub Ohm Problems

I own a smok baby beast sub ohm tank and a Cloud Beast King sub ohm tank. I have the same problem with both of them. No matter if I change the coils, try a new juice, or lower my wattage the vape always tastes burnt and dry. Is this a problem with just smok coil heads? Is the a way to fix this or should I buy a new atty?

Need a bit of additional information, i.e. what are the wattage settings and what is the resistance of the coil(s)? Are you priming the coils? Are you certain you have authentic coils? Airflow set properly to allow juice to be vaporized and juice to enter the coil? What is the vg/pg of your liquid?

I’ve tried all wattages, right now I’m at 37 watts for the baby beast. It’s a .6 ohm Q2 coil. Yes I prime all of my coils. Yes I’ve bought them from my local vape shop, and VaporDNA. I have my airflow wide open right now, and usually do. I’ve tried 60/40, and 70/30 but it’s the same.

If you think the problem might be that the coilheads are not letting enough juice into them through wicking holes, you can take a needle and gently poke a hole in the cotton on the holes around coilhead. Gotta be careful with that however because if the hole is too big too much juice will get in and flood the coil, and you don't want to jam the needle deep in there as it can move or bend the coil itself. Other thoughts: how long of a drag are you taking and do you have this problem all the time or mostly when vaping out in he cold? At higher wattage you should generally be taking a 2 to 4 second drag with plenty of air, and freezing weather makes juice thicken up quite a bit and it doesn't want to wick right...

I would agree with getting at your coils wick with a few strategic needle pokes, at this point. Start priming LOW, like without wattage at all, and increase in slow, maybe 5 watt increments, make sure that wick is fully saturated.

I don't own any smok tanks or coils, but my understanding is that some of them will take non-proprietary coils and you might have better luck with those.... I imagine a smok user may be along to help, since I didn't retain that information.... Best of luck,

I'd play with airflow too. The coils need air to cool down but more restriction creates a better vacuum to suck the juice in. You can get a more dense, warmer, wetter vape from restricting the airflow too. You may find the flavour gets better as well.

Make sure you prime the coils before you install them. Work your way from 30 or 40 W all the way up to the minimum best range very slowly every time you take a drag make sure there are bubbles coming out of the wick slots if not you might have vapor lock to eliminate this slide the tap fill cap over to burp your tank. Make sure you are not hitting the fire button before you start sucking through the tank and also make sure you were not hitting the fire button after you are sucking through the tank it seems simple but some people do that and it burns coils out because there is no airflow. Vape your coils in the best range or close to the low-end of the best range. Also give your coils a good two to03 seconds in between Vapes to allow proper wicking. But definitely breaking in your coils especially smack coils is very important as I said in the beginning if you’re using something like the T8 that goes up to 130 what’s the maximum start at 30 w and take five drags and then go up another 5 W and take five puffs go up another 5 W and take five puffs until you reach about 120 then back it down to about 70 W and stick right there. That is about all I can think of I have videos on YouTube of the cloud beast coils And what wattage to Vape them at and examples.

I go for flavor over clouds, but still get a decent exhale ( my wife complains about fogging up the house ). As I vape sweet juices a coil lasts about 40-50 ml, but that beats only 9 ml before cleaning and rewicking my RDTAs.

Are use a razor blade instead and cut vertically from top to bottom but if you get yourself a cloud beast he won’t have that problem at all. I don’t know if you’ve ever had a cloud beast but the coils are with 3x bigger lol

I didn't see this mentioned, but if you fill your tank all the way and not leave a small air pocket inside the tank, it can make it very hard for the juice to wick and you end up with dry, burnt hits.

That is why I always leave a tiny bit of space and I also immediately take three or four big hits after filling also I always close they are slots I have had zero problems with my cloud beast

I think @stols001 hit the nail on the head. Usually the first thing I do with SMOK coils, is to poke a hole into every one of those cotton inserts before I even prime the coils. I've never liked the wicking on the stock SMOK coils, but once I poke a few holes in them, they're good. The only SMOK atomizers I own, is the smok spirals, and the smok TFV4. The spirals is a flavor tank, the TFV4 is a first gen cloud tank.. both needed holes. I've heard of great success poking holes in the TFV8 as well.

Second, is what you just said... you're leaving the airflow wide open. If you close the airflow just a bit, it will create a small vacuum pulling the juice into the coil. If it's wide open, you don't get that vacuum.

Honestly don’t have to poke holes in anything! The original cloud beast does NOT need that. If you are getting dry hits on any of the baby beast tanks then you have out grown your tank..period. When I got my first big baby everything was fine.. As I used it more and more and more I started to get dry and burnt hits, that’s when I realized I have a literally outgrown this tank and it is no longer enough for my Vape habits. Now since I have gotten and stuck with a cloud beast I have had zero wicking problems and that is with using probably between 8 to 10 of each coil and I have never had a burnt hit.
