Sub Ohm

Hi fellow Capers

Been gaping on a Atlantis sub ohm battery for a couple weeks now. Nice piece kit but I'm wondering what wattage I'm gaping at as there no way of knowing with the Sub Ohm ? Not unlike my Vamo 5, I bought a Atlantis tank because been impressed with the Aspire tanks. I have a Nautilus 5 ml tank on the Vamo 5 had no problems what so ever. I just started really with my Atlantis so wondering what I can do with this baby ? I love flavor.

Just a Aspire Sub Ohm battery at the moment as I went with the starter kit. I bought it all together and wanted to start off cheaply and something to get me started at Sub Ohm Vaping.

The Aspire Sub Ohm battery acts like a mech mod's battery. At full charge, it's outputting ~4.2V, and as the battery drains, the voltage goes down (hopefully no lower than about 3.7V).

4.2V through a .5 ohm coil = 35W.
3.7V through a .5 ohm coil = 27W.

Well, there ya go... nyiddle beat me to it. And with the link, no less! If you switch to a regulated mod where you can adjust the wattage (which automatically adjusts the voltage), then you can change the game entirely. If you were to crank it up to say, 50W, then you would notice an increase in vapor production and quite possibly flavor... but the only way to do that with the Atlantis is to put it on top of a regulated mod.

With an Atlantis, 50W would absolutely FRY the head lol. I find they operate best in the fully charged 18650 range (3.7 - 4.2V).

Really? What do they use for coil wire? I've never actually seen one of them yet... don't really see the point since all I use now are rebuildables.

They use some cheap chinese wire, but it's not the wire really. It's the actual wicking material and stuff that'll burn, and I have NO idea what it's made out of (some kind of silica I assume, but egh, it tastes GNARLY when burnt). Also, Atlantis heads, once they taste burnt, they do not go un-burnt.

With both my Subtank and my Atlantis I've learned [the hard way] not to go above about 30W. Even at 25W, if I take a hard enough gut rip (like I would if I were vaping through a chuff top and a low-ohm mech mod) I can get the wicks to get that nasty burnt taste. It's not pleasant, and those heads ain't cheap.

Hmmm.... thanks for the heads-up, man... I think I'll stick to my rda's and Orchid with rayon wicks... hell, I'm pushing 88W through my Hobo right now with a Cherry Vapes tip, and no issues at all...

I like the Subtank/Atlantis for their convenience, but I also tend to stick to my Orchid/Doge 1/2/Littleboy/etc. With a .5 ohm coil (same as Subtank/Atlantis lol) I can push 70W, easily, through my Orchid. It is a leaky ....... though. And my Doges, one at .3 and one at .6, can both withstand 80W without burning (crazy airflow on them doges).

Yeah, I typically run my Orchid at .3, no problems with leaking though... I put just a little of the rayon tails in the channels and it's pretty solid. Other than that, I run my Hobo at .2 and it's still a pretty cool vape. Everything is on mechs, I haven't sprung for a reg mod yet...

I switched to box mods about 4 or 5 months ago, and I haven't looked back. I have a custom-made OKL-T20 Hammond-style box mod, and it's my go-to vape. Also mind you, my "high-ohm sub-ohm" coils are high ohm because they're beefy as all hell. My Doge is currently running a 26 ga 14-wrap dual coil.

Awesome! Just ordered this exact set up today! Last question, What is the preferred wattage for a 0.5ohm coil?

Well it isn't universal for all coils, but for the Atlantis/Subtank/other pre-built .5 ohm heads, I've found that 20-30W is a good range. Any hotter and you'll likely notice some dry/burnt hits, but of course, it's something I recommend playing around with. You might find, because of the way you pull or something, that you like lower or higher wattages.

Exactly....the atlantis coils are junk....anything above 30 watts I get burnt taste too....FRIED coil.....:)

But they work fine for me in the 20W range.

Best to get a Kanger Subtank and build your own coils...or any other good atty....the Goblin works well too.
