Sub-ohms on Sony 30A?

Hey guys!

So I know that the Sony 30A is a great battery for sub-ohm vaping, but I was wondering to what extent.If I understand correctly, to get the continuous amp draw of a build you take the voltage and divide it by the resistance. This means that the Sonys shouldn't go lower than 0.14 omhs, but I have seen people vaping at .1-.09 ohms on these things. Is that safe?

Heylo and welcome to the forum!

With a fully charged battery, your math is correct. You should not go below 0.14Ω, but that is even pushing it. At that resistance, you are pushing the battery to it's continuous discharge limit the entire time you're vaping. I mean, if you are always pushing something to it's limit, it's bound to fail. I use the Sony VCT5's and I never go below 0.24Ω, that way I'm well within the capabilities of the battery.

Those people that are dropping below 0.14Ω are trusting in the so called 'pulse limit' of 60A. That, or they just don't know any better and are all about teh cloudz man. It is by no means safe, please do not try and replicate their results. There's no need anyways.

Short answer? No.

Long answer? It's a risk. The VTC series is actually capable of short bursts above 30 amps for short periods of time. The higher the amps, the less "safe" time you have to vape, and the longer you should wait for the battery to cool in between vapes. The bad thing about that is a battery heats internally, and it's possible that by the time that heat gets through the battery and starts to heat the tube of your mod, it may be too late.

High enough amps with insufficient cooling time and that battery WILL misbehave, possibly badly, possibly not. It's unknown territory, and one that I am not comfortable vaping in.

Simply put...NO
There is a lot of "monkey see, monkey do" regarding low-low sub-ohm vaping! And for what? Cheap thrills, bragging rights, etc. I don't get it. Seems pretty adolescent to me.:2c:

To me it's more like a certain male body part measuring contest. I can understand certain sub-ohm builds because of dual coils, quad coil, twisted wire etc. But trying to go below a certain safe level... Why? Again this another one of those questions that the stance of the forums should be answered to be on the side of safety and caution.

When subjected to a 30A draw, temperature of the VTC will rise to 100 degree C. Active cooling is needed.
