I prefer spaced, less spitting and a bit cooler vape than compressed coils, but everyone has an opinion on which is better. I believe the "little blue screwdriver" is about 2.5mm if I'm not mistaken, but I always build my coils 2.5mm. Build it on the bit and see how the screwdriver fits in it after.
My favorite (simple) build right now for the ST Mini is a 26g, tightly spaced 2.5mm ID registering .7Ω; I create a contact coil first and then slightly pull it out.
The little blue screwdriver that comes with the kit looks like 2mm exactly, at least in comparison to the tools I have. IDs between 2-3mm have worked well for me on the Mini RBA+, that's why I go middle of the road w/ 2.5mm.
For me, spaced coils seem to work better in the ST mini on 26 and 28 AWG kanthal. I get more vapor and the wick inside the coil seems to wick better reducing chance or dry hits. This is just my opinion from my experience.
I'm building spaced coils also, 26ga with 7 wraps. I believe I get better wicking and flavor from the spaced coils is better and like Randy mentioned very little spitting. For me the coils also have better life and don't become gunked up.
