Hi guys, did my first rebuild on ST OCC head and its quite a big success (as there's no leaking and taste better than the stock OCC I bought).

But it all only last for a day. When I vaped it just now, it could handle 1-2 puff (roughly 4 sec each) and starting to get me a dry hit. A rough one.

May I know whats going on there?

At the same time, whenever I stopped pressing the power button after vape, theres slight smoke coming out from the drip tip and the air hole for 2 to 3 sec. Are these normal?

Rebuilt with 28g kanthal wire, 1.2ohm reading on it. vape on sigelei Mini 30w, 15W, 4.3v.

Please correct me if there's any setup that I did wrong.

I find that a twisted 26 gauge kanthal wire with 7 wraps around a 1/8 drill bit with 5-7mm wide strip of japanese cotton is the best setup for the OCC subtank heads. I take the top and bottom parts off of the japanese cotton and use the fluffier middle to go through, clip it as tight to the head as you can get it then fluff up the cotton and poke it back through the juice inlet holes. Getting the leads to sit right with the 2 strand twisted wire is kind of tough at first but it will chuck clouds and I haven't experienced a dry hit with it, I'm using the middle airflow setting and vaping at 30 watts on a Kbox mod with 70% vg juice. It sounds like your coil is still warm after leaving the power button off, I had this problem when I rebuilt the occ coil trying to get it to the same specs as the factory ones. I haven't tried anything with 28g kanthal, but my experience with the above build has been excellent.

Quite normal. Vapor continues to be made after the fire button is released if the coil is still hot enough to vaporize the e-liquid.

You might do very short pulses (on/off/on/off) with the fire button while still taking a drag. This would help keep the coil temperature at a lower level if the vape is too harsh/hot.

I ONLY REBUILT AN OCC COIL A COUPLE TIMES. Opps cap locks. Anyways I do a 5 wrap with 26 gauge a1 kanth. then align it with the whole twist and pull the bottom to snap off. I use ... cot. and it works great. You need to remember your dealing with wires and cotton. If the cotton doesn't get wet the cotton dry's. Maybe push the cotton in the whole more and leave more room for the liquid to make its way in the occ wholes. Thats what i do. In my opinion the subtank was made for a more PG blend of e juice. All these tanks work amazing with PG juices like Hangsen etc.... The VG juices clog up and don't produce well with these tanks. And allot of these Tanks have small juice channels. This is why some fools call this coil wicking process an ART FORM. Keep practicing and you will get it. Let us know how it works out for you. Word!

I know this is not going to be really helpful, but I've had the same issue before, and it's always because I have the cotton either too loose or too tight. When you pull it through, you should be able to slide it back and forth with some resistance, but not so much that the cotton is bunching up at the coil.

Also, IMO, the subtank doesn't handle juices higher than 70% VG very well. I know there are some success stories with higher VG, and I've had some myself, but it's just a rule of thumb for me.

For what it's worth, I stopped using my subtank when I rebuilt my Atlantis head with a horizontal build. It will handle 100% pure VG at 40 watts with no dry hits, and the flavor I get off of any and every juice is just incredible.

Even simpler, the Sigelei Mini has PWM. Just hold own the fire and up buttons simultaneously.

I would think so as I'm using factory .5Ω coils with 70VG and as long as I'm easy on it and don't chain vape they work fine; now then if I vape like I usually vape, they will give dry, burning taste hits.
