Subtank Mini - Popping unbearable

Hi everyone,

Brand new vaper here. Been using a friends eGo-T for the last couple days and decided I wanted something better so I ordered the iStick 30w with the subtank mini. I am getting some crazy popping when I fire and it is unbareable. I get this with the .5 ohm and the 1.2 ohm coils. I am about to try the RBA if I can't figure out how to fix this soon. I googled subtank mini popping and noticed that this seems to be a common problem, but I did not come across any fixes other than getting replacement coils. Are these stock coils just bunk or what?? Please help!

Thanks

Joe

When I started using the Subtank Mini, I noticed that the popping is most prevalent when the power is set too low. What coil are you using and what power is it set at? With the 1.2 ohm coil I was running it between 12 and 15 watts, and with the 0.5 ohm coil I am running it between 20 and 22 watts. I don't get any popping, just a reassuring sizzle. Any higher and the sizzle is louder but the vape is too warm for my preference.

Thanks for the response everyone. I am running the 1.2 coil at 12w right now and the popping seems to be happening less. Hoping that it just needs some breaking in. I also read that the sweet juice is more likely to do this and I am using a 100% VG Vazilla mixed with 50/50 Flame Thrower so it is super sweet.

That G2 Prime Vazilla? That stuff rocks.

I would say the stock OCC coils are junk, JMO of course....if you pull a little cotton out of the coil on both sides of the OCC with tweezers it may help some. Worked for me.

If you think they snap-crackle-pop.....try one in sub tank Nano.......:)

Make ya jump........:D

Bought a few Youde RTA's....no more snap-crackle-pops here.

Buy some higher VG juice, that will help, these Subtanks do pop but mine isn't as bad now. Try mothers milk by suicide bunny, apart from it being one of the best juices it reduced my popping in my mini a lot. I also vaped 50/50 in the past and the popping was pretty bad, normal though for these coils..

Pops and crackles are not a problem. If I build a RBA and don't get that I know I did something wrong. And yes, some attys are louder than others.

The noise will subside as coils gunk up with use. The quieter it gets the closer you are to having to replace a head or clean the coils which is one reason I love that snap, crackle and pop so much ;)

I don't use the same Tank as you,but I was having the same problem with my 5ml Nautilus. I had started using the new BVC coils and I was going thru the coils like crazy. The popping was more like a tire blowing out followed by burning hot juice shooting out the drip tip (Nearly got me in the eye one day).I believe the wick was getting over saturated by my thin juice. I agree with RiXtas suggestion of using a thicker juice, since that completely solved the problem for me. I had been buying a 70/30 mix and started getting a 50/50 PG/VG mix instead. You can still hear the normal juice sizzle, but no loud gurgles or popping. Raising the temp seems to help some people, but I was scorching the Wick if I bumped it up enough to do ME any good. Good Luck !!!

So glad I read through this, as have one coming in a couple of days. Such a good community here to get advice from.

Visionhorse, I bought a drip tip (only the drip tip) like the muti directional ones on the i16 and 30's or whatever they are called, which is a great help to miss a boiling drop of your favorite eliquide in the eye.
You could try playing up and down on the V/W if your device is adjustable, as this can make them a little less... lethal! It does sound a bit drastic as vaping risks are, but it has happened (not in the eye!) to me too, getting spitted at by boiling juice! Nasty :(
I use almost 100% VG, not counting a little 25% for flavor and Nic (they made a mistake on my order!), but it spits too, believe me...
Err, good luck, and if it gets really bad, try a higher Ohm resistance or goggles ;)

This community is great! The popping went away and the coils are rocking. Yummy tasting vapor with light crackling that lets me know it is working. I noticed there was less popping when I inhaled faster, and after putting a mL or two through the coils they quieted down a lot and I could inhale slower without the popping. I am a happy vaper now, really loving the Vazilla from G2(6mg max VG)! I got some other flavors in 12mg and some 50/50 stuff too, and I can't tell yet if it is the nic level or the PG that is irritating my throat when I vape them. After this tank is clean I'm going to try some watermelon from Virgin Vapor(12mg max VG) to try and figure out if its the nicotine or the PG, or if I just need to get used to vaping as this is only my second week.
