I picked up a Subtank mini recently, and I really like it. So far I've been using the .5 occ coils I purchased w/ it. They've been great. I wanted to try to get into building my own coils for the RBA deck, but have never built them before. I recently bought a package of the Kanger premade coils for it just because of the ease of use, I figure. Came w/ 20 coils and cotton. Should I still be testing these w/ an ohm meter before use, or are they good to go?

Good to go, your mod probably has an ohm reader built in too. The RBA section is all I use, I love it. The 1.2 occ coil was nice but my .5 occ coil made that loud popping sound which I don't like. Buy some kanthal and cotton, coils are actually pretty simple to make.
I don't believe my mod does have a reader. As my first steps into the sub ohm world I picked up a kbox just as a starter to see if I liked it or not. I would like to get a different box mod eventually as funds allow. Any suggestions? I can't really be spending $100+ though.

Good choice with the SubTank mini! I was buying ready to use coils but after watching several YouTube videos on rebuilding the SubTank mini RBA and even tutorials on rebuilding the Kanger OCC coils, I am doing my own coils now. It does take practice though. My OCC rebuilds using 26ga. Kanthal wire are usually 6 or 7 wraps using (get this) a large bamboo skewer! I found that the skewer with a little sanding fits the OCC wicking holes just perfect and is easy to hold as well. Just my way of doing this at this time. The rebuilt coils check in a around 0.7 or 0.8 Ohms which I like personally. Yes, the 0.5 coils will pop a little bit if the power is too high but that's easy to work around. I personally really like my SubTank mini and nano... a lot!

Good choice on the tank. I have been digging my Subox. Could you post a link of what you purchased? Thanks.
