hey guys. so ive been reading about people whose coils are supposedly lasting over a month. well mine is five days in and CRUDDED UP to no end. Its so bad I am getting a brown substance bleeding into my liquid from the coil crud I believe. I look at the coil and it looks TERRIBLE. Am I doing something wrong that is killing my coil so fast?!?! Can I clean it up somehow without having to pull the cotton and rewick it?

Perhaps more information might help... What juice are you running in it? How much PG/VG, etc...
Yea I was going to say, I think it's juice dependent. I've learned with all my tanks...Once I start with a juice that's lets say, cinnamon or caramel involved...Then that's the juice that remains on that coil. For example, I'm hooked on Sweet Tooth's Cheat Day, which is a chocolate glazed donut. On my Delta II, I tried to switch over to Steam Factory's Muffcake, which is a muffin/cupcake with a hint of lemon and it's a no go...The chocolate is just too dominant. Certain juices will gunk up your premade coils. If you're rebuilding or dripping, you can get away with more.
Try soaking them in Pure Grain Alcohol (100 proof) for several hours, hot rinse and let them air dry 24 hrs.
Time is meaningless. Everyone vapes different amounts. How much e-liquid have you vaped on the same coil?
That seems like a reasonable amount of juice to go through before a new coil/wick is needed.
Rewicking these Kanger coils is such a breeze. I just rewicked my first .5 ohm coil. Didn't have to build a new coil at all. Took less than five minutes with a pair of tweezers and a needle. Picking out as much of the old cotton as I could. Then I dry burned it in pulses. My coil was so gunked it caught fire. Kept pulsing until no more smoke.

By pulsing, do you mean firing/dry burning and then giving it a small quick shot of water to knock the burned stuff off?
yup, remove wick of course, same as w/rba, short duration firing, aka pulses, just to get coil red then release fire button, water is optional, dont fire it too long or u will melt insulator, i blow on the coil head to keep it cool between/during firing

I can't get the re-wicking part right, it will last about a day before i start getting burnt hits.
Do you leave some wick sticking out? Or stuff it in more like the stock coils?
Seems simple for the videos ive watched, but i can't get the right combination.
I did it just like the stock coil last night. Except I am getting muted or no flavor but other than that great hits. Using ... organic cotton. Any suggestions as I see nothing but people raving about this supposedly great cotton?
I am about to re-wick a nice build my friend did for the RBA, I will do that. It's pretty low watts to get the coil red isn't it? like 15?
I did mine at 11.5. Though I wonder if I did mine too low wattage. My flavor is quite muted still so I will bump up the wattage on my next one that I clean.
Just getting more into the cleaning & rewicking of these OCC Coils... Couple of questions for those experienced minds:
Is it an option to simply soak the used coils in tap water (for 24 hours) then let air dry? Will this salvage some dirty wick?
When rewicking... After pulsing/heating the coils to burn crud off - do you just drop a bit of water right onto the coil to wash it a bit? While hot & still on the battery/mod?

You really need to dry burn to get that "new" taste back. Soaking by itself won't get rid of the build up off the coil. I suppose you run them under a steam wand of an espresso machine. The pressure and steam may blast the coil back to good shape. I used to do that with cartos and attys, but it easier to just burn, rewick, and back to vaping rather than waiting for 24 hours to dry. I also rinse just to get rid of any charred remains that may have fell off and are sitting below the coil. I've been rewicking with a simple "all natural" cotton ball (no bleach or whitener of any kind). I pull the cotton through and then trim off a good 5mm or so on each side. Then use a toothpick or screwdriver and push the extra length back into the head.
I'm keeping my wicks longer than most. I'm trying to replicate the "pancake" build that Rip Tripper uses but for the OCC coil and not for an RBA deck.
